Electromechanical Handling Tool Design Manager

About the role:

As an Electromechanical Handling Tool Design Manager you will lead the design and engineering operations of the group. You will report to the Director, Material Handling and Tooling and be located at our Peterborough, Ontario, office. The working arrangement is Hybrid and travel to the office 3+ days/week is required.

Main Responsibilities:

Resource management of a team of approximately 15-25 direct report engineers and designers. Discipline is largely mechanical however may evolve to include manufacturing engineering in the near term. The team is comprised of both experienced and early career professionals.

Lead all aspects of personnel development and management, in cooperation with the technical leader(s) in the team.

High level of engagement with the Peterborough manufacturing facility, supporting production issue resolution and production planning.

Ensure standards of quality through governance and application of CSA N299.1 and ASME NQA-1 quality assurance programs, cost (including use of resources to meet assigned targets), safety (ensuring both personnel and Industrial safety), reliability, commitments and performance are met.

Responsible for the growth (hiring) of the team and maintaining critical skills, primary competencies within the group.

Develop the resource and technical strategy to deliver the design, assembly, testing and deployment of first of a kind handling tooling to industry.

Identify and define technical challenges, direct efforts to successful resolution.

Provide technical guidance and direction to and collaborate with other personnel including partners/subcontractors.

Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with 8 years of relevant engineering and/or manufacturing experience OR a diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology with 12 years of relevant design experience

A licensed professional engineer in the province of Ontario (or other province) is preferred

Experience working to nuclear QA program design processes (other specialized QAP with design process governance may also be acceptable)

Familiarity with modeling and simulation tools (ANSYS, Inventor, SolidWorks, etc.)

Strong teamwork and demonstrated leadership skills

Ability to Influence others outside of own job area regarding policies, practices and procedures

Sound contract knowledge, uses approved commercial processes, manages work to terms, scope; tracks progress and models a questioning attitude

It is a bona fide job requirement to be eligible and authorized to travel to the U.S. on Westinghouse business, and such travel is subject to the rules and regulations of the U.S. Department of Energy, as well as compliance with all applicable U.S. export laws and regulations.
