Responsibilities Visually examine equipment for overall appearance, security of all connections and wiring, and damage to circuitry. Calibrate test equipment by utilizing digital voltmeters, oscillators, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, and other devices to ensure the Test Sets are calibrated within their due date. Assist higher graded employees on performing more complex analysis of modification status, operation, calibration and correlation of various electronic test sets. Use mechanical and electrical hand tools and other special shop tools and equipment. Make preliminary determinations on whether equipment is economically repairable. Perform operational test of repaired equipment to ensure equipment passes diagnostic test without error and completes data sheets for inspections to document results. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Electronic Measurement Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common duties associated with maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, overhauling, modifying, testing, and calibrating a variety of portable or installed electronic test equipment. I can (1) install, repair, adjust, and replace parts of, or modifications to, various circuits or wiring, (2) operate a variety of test equipment such as oscilloscopes, signal and frequency counters, digital voltmeters, and other specialized equipment, and (3) read and interpret clearly defined technical information contained in schematics, manufacturers' specifications, fault isolation aids, and calibration procedures. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Sometimes required to lift and carry items weighing more than 40 pounds with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. The work involves standing and bending in sometimes awkward positions, occasional climbing and bench work (sitting) for prolonged periods of time. Working Conditions: Work is usually done inside in well lighted, heated and ventilated areas. However, maybe required to work in adverse conditions in emergency conditions. Incumbent maybe exposed to the possibility of electric shock, burns from the electrical frequency energy or hot solder, and cuts and bruises.
