Electronic Technician Advanced -- Starting salary is $25.79/hourly
A valid Louisiana Class “B” Commercial License may be required on hire and is required to attain permanent status.
No Civil Service test scoreis required in order to be considered for this vacancy.
This position may be filled as a Detail to Special Duty or a Probationary appointment requiring 6-24 months on probation.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Three years of experience or training in the maintenance or repair of mechanical or electronic office equipment, precision machinery, or electronic/electrical systems; OR
Three years of experience or training in the installation, repair, or maintenance of computer equipment or systems (hardware and/or software); OR
Possession of a CompTIA A+ Certification plus one of the following:
1. Two years of experience in the maintenance or repair of mechanical or electronic office equipment, precision machinery, or electronic/electrical systems; OR
2. Two years of experience in the installation, repair, or maintenance of computer equipment or systems (hardware and/or software).
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every six semester hours earned from an accredited college or university in electronics or computer science will substitute for one year of the required experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess an appropriate Federal Communications Commission (FCC) radio-telephone license when working with marine and aviation transmitting equipment or with radar.
Job Concepts
Function of Work:
To maintain and repair all makes and types of office machines, electronic and mechanical equipment, electronic communications, television (TV) systems, and mobile communications equipment.
Level of Work:

General from an Electronic Technician Supervisor.
Supervision Exercised:
Functional over lower level Electronic Technicians.

Job Distinctions:
Differs from Electronic Technician Supervisor by lack of first line supervisory responsibilities.
Differs from Electronic Technician performance of more complex work and lead worker responsibilities.
Examples of Work
Reviews work of and provides guidance to lower level Electronic Technicians on a project basis.
Reads and interprets the most complex electric and electronic schematics and mechanical layouts during diagnosis and repair of complex electronic equipment.
Makes estimates of repairs to determine if feasible.
Provides visual inspection of television equipment, checking for safety defects and repairing as required.
Maintains an inventory system of parts for immediate and emergency repairs.
Performs diagnosis and repairs on the most complex electronic and mechanical equipment.
Performs preventive maintenance operations as required on a periodic basis.
Assists in check-out and installation of equipment and systems and recommends acceptance or rejection until corrections are made.
Installs, updates, and expands components and systems to equipment and checks for proper operation.
Performs repairs to component level on equipment responsible for.
Installs two-way radios in state vehicles.
Serves as liaison with manufacturing and distributors of radio parts and other communications related personnel.
Issues citations as needed for failure of operators to follow federal and state rules and regulations.
JOB DUTIES
85% Lead and provide guidance to lower level staff with performing the installation, repair and maintenance of electronic traffic signal systems, computerized traffic signal controllers and equipment, and video vehicle detection equipment.
Lead and provide guidance to lower level staff with detailed preventive maintenance of traffic signal systems, and review preventive maintenance work and repairs performed on traffic signal systems.
Lead and provide guidance to lower level staff with repairing the traffic signal data communication systems for computerized signal systems.
Lead and provide guidance to lower level staff completing transfers programming data to and from computerized traffic signal controllers using a laptop computer or palm pilot.
Lead and assist lower level staff with keeping an adequate inventory of traffic signal components on hand for routine and emergency repairs.
Reviews work of and provides guidance to lower level staff on a project basis.
Lead and assist lower level staff with performing daily routine service and maintenance on vehicles assigned to gang.
Uses advanced knowledge to troubleshoot more complex programming modification on computerized traffic controllers and equipment.
10% Coordinates work assignments for Unit 751-Signals. Responsible for maintaining an inventory of parts for immediate and emergency repairs.
5% Performs any additional duties as assigned by supervisor including, but not limited to emergency/disaster support activities.
