Electronics Technician II Bookmark this Posting Print Preview | Apply for this Job Posting Details Position Information Job Title Electronics Technician II Full Time/Part Time Full Time FLSA Non-Exempt General Job Description This is a skilled-craft position responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of the university’s electronic equipment and electrical systems. Responsible for maintaining and repairing fire/safety equipment and devices; installing, maintaining, analyzing, diagnosing, and repairing electronic equipment and electrical systems, including scientific equipment and computer-based systems; responding to trouble calls for fire/safety equipment, performing skilled troubleshooting as needed; and assisting employees with technical troubleshooting. Reports to the Electrical/Electronics Foreperson. Essential Job Functions 1. Maintains and repairs fire alarm systems and fire/safety equipment. 2. Installs, maintains, analyzes, diagnoses, and repairs scientific equipment, computer-based systems, and other electronic equipment and electrical systems. 3. Responds to trouble calls for fire/safety equipment, performing skilled troubleshooting as needed. 4. Assures that addressable devices are reporting to general command centers. 5. Maintains records for work order system. 6. Assists employees with technical troubleshooting. 7. Performs preventative maintenance and produces reports. 8. Provides support to other craft areas in the department. 9. Follows safety standards and practices to ensure work is completed as safely as possible. 10. Works nights, weekends, and on call after hours, as required. Non-Essential Job Functions 1. May order material and equipment necessary to perform the job. 2. May assist supervisors in annual inventory. 3. Performs other related duties as assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation. 1. Knowledge of the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and operation of applicable electronic equipment and electrical systems. 2. Knowledge of fiber optic networks and the continuation of overhead topology. 3. Knowledge of wireless device communications. 4. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade. 5. Skill in the operation of technical equipment and electronic detection devices. 6. Skill in performing routine maintenance on equipment. 7. Skill in analyzing, diagnosing, and repairing equipment or systems using the needed tools. 8. Skill in soldering and cementing. 9. Ability to install and/or program equipment and systems to meet specifications. 10. Ability to use, maintain, and care for hand and power tools. 11. Ability to follow detailed instructions and to interpret drawings and diagrams. 12. Physical condition adequate to permit full performance of duties. Physical Demands Required Education High school diploma or equivalent is required. Vocational certificate, technical degree, or equivalent with an emphasis in electronics (including AC/DC circuits) is required. Candidates who do not meet the degree requirement, but have significant experience related to the position may also be considered. Required Experience and Training Three years of related experience is required. Experience working with industrial electronics, communication electronics, and digital electronics is required. Experience maintaining and repairing fire alarms, smoke detectors, and related fire/safety systems is required. Preferred Qualifications State Fire Alarm Technician license or Fire Alarm Monitoring Technician license is preferred. Min Pay Rate Mid Pay Rate Salary Information Salary Grade - 16 Specific Job Requirements/Duties for this Posting Is Background Check Required?
