Pay Range:

$39.98 - $49.65 Hourly for the 531.2 level
$47.93 - $59.49 hourly for the 531.3 level

This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting.  An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.

Job Description

We have an opening for an Electronics Technologist.  You will develop, test, troubleshoot, evaluate, operate, and maintain experimental, research, and prototype equipment associated with electronic and/or photonics systems within the Jupiter Laser Facility (JLF).  This position is in the Laser Systems Engineering and Operations (LSEO) Division, within the Engineering Directorate.

This position will be filled at either level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.

You will

Fabricate, assemble, and disassemble moderately complex electronic and/or photonics components and systems.Acquire and analyze data and provide solutions and alternate approaches to moderately complex problems using advanced methods and independent judgment.Prepare and work from instructional and established guidelines, techniques, and procedures for repairing, calibrating, operating, and maintaining equipment and systems.Perform detailed maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment using a wide variety of testing equipment and troubleshooting methods.Provide technical support to engineering tests, physics experiments, and program operations.Acquire and analyze basic data and test results using known performance parameters to report results and identify problems.Contribute to moderately complex preliminary design concepts and engineering decision processes. Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional job responsibilities at the 531.3 Level

Independently deploy, fabricate, assemble disassemble, and perform comprehensive troubleshooting of complex electronic and/or photonics components and systems, including planning and selecting materials and equipment, interpreting standards, establishing methods, and setting priorities.Assist in developing complex test parameters, troubleshooting and testing materials, components, or systems, identifying problems, and providing input on solutions.Independently identify, analyze, and provide solutions and alternate approaches to complex electronic and/or photonics problems using advanced methods, innovation, and judgment.Prioritize and provide work and technical guidance to others, checking for accuracy, completeness, and function. Qualifications Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.Associate degree in an engineering technology such as electronics, photonics, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.Intermediate knowledge of engineering hardware testing processes.Experience with some aspect of electronic and/or photonics assembly; including troubleshooting, installation, and maintenanceExperience in safe work and business practices.Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team environment.Effective written and verbal communication and presentation skills.Ability to lift 25 lbs. in a safe and controlled manner.      

Additional qualifications at the 531.3 Level

Advanced understanding of electronic and/or photonics technology.Experience working on a technical project team and providing technical direction and guidance to others.Advanced technical skills and demonstrated knowledge of engineering principles to solve complex problems.Effective written and verbal communication, feedback, and presentation skills.

Qualifications We Desire

Previous experience in a large, multi-beam laser operations environment.Previous experience with a large, multi-beam laser system; specifically in the areas of beam alignment, cryogenic operations, laser operations, conventional, or process utilities. Additional Information

Security Clearance

This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.  If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. Also, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing.  Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship. 

Pre-Employment Drug Test

Per the Department of Energy (DOE), Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory must meet certain restrictions with the use and/or possession of mobile devices in Limited Areas. If you use a medical device, which pairs with a mobile device, you must still follow the rules concerning the mobile device in individual sections within Limited Areas.  Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities require separate approval. Hearing aids without wireless capabilities or wireless that has been disabled are allowed in Limited Areas, Secure Space and Transit/Buffer Space within buildings.
