ABOUT MAYA ANGELOU ACADEMY

We’re looking for an enthusiastic Classroom Therapist who's dedicated to providing outstanding mental health, case management, and consultation services to grades K-5 students at our Oakland-based nonpublic school, Maya Angelou Academy (MAA). As a Classroom Therapist, you’ll collaborate with MAA’s knowledgeable school staff to oversee therapeutic and case management services, conduct mental health assessments, as well as create and implement individual behavioral plans. Our Classroom Therapists continually grow in expertise around clinical issues in the classroom and find evidence-based and creative ways to foster a therapeutic milieu that solves these challenges.

Responsibilities Work as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team with teachers, counselors, other specialists/educational staff, and program leadershipProvide interventions including therapy (individual, group, family) and case management for identified students based on school-based referrals, individualized clinical assessment, diagnosis and treatment planningEngage caregivers in the treatment process, providing frequent opportunities to discuss student growth and needsProvide crisis intervention, including risk screening, assessment, triage, and service linkageUtilize crisis communication and de-escalation techniques as per Seneca's crisis response trainingThis may include intervening with the clients' behavioral program through physical management of the clients, if applicable. Training in additional crisis intervention modalities may be requiredProvide consultation to other school staff on safety assessments, mental health crises, accessing social service, and in utilizing healing centered techniques to experience success with all studentsContribute to a strong school culture by participating in or leading small group, classroom or school-wide activities for students that celebrate success and promote joyComplete required data collection and service documentation for plan development and to measure the effectiveness of services, inform team decision making, and/or engage in service billing Qualifications

REQUIRED

Master’s degree in social work/psychology/counseling/marriage family therapyRegistered or eligble to register with California BBS: ASW, AMFT, APCC, or fully licensedMust be at least 21 years of ageValid driver's license, clean driving record, and insurability through Seneca Family of Agencies’ insurance policyTB test clearance, fingerprinting clearance, and any other state/federal licensing or certification requirementsProof of up-to-date COVID-19 vaccination

Experience working with youth in a mental health or education setting is stronglyAbility to work collaboratively as a team member and contribute to the growth and development of an engaged program culture Schedule School based schedule:Monday to Friday: 8 AM- 4:30 PM 5 weeks of paid time off, 11 paid holidays, and 14 paid school break daysProposed start date is February 2025.
