**This role involves working with students who have severe emotional and behavioral needs. Students may exhibit behaviors such as elopement, aggression, outbursts, or other physical expressions. **

 

University Instructors (UI) is seeking dynamic face-to-face Special Education elementary co-teachers for the 2024-25 School Year. The Emotional and Behavioral Special Education (SPED) Teacher is responsible for providing specialized instruction and support to grades K-3 students with emotional and behavioral challenges. In this role, you will work closely with other support staff to ensure students achieve academic and social success.

Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll:

 

Individualized Education Programs (IEPs):

Implement, and monitor IEPs tailored to the emotional and behavioral needs of students.Use assessments to identify students' strengths, needs, and progress.Participate in IEP meetingsAdditional tasks as assigned by the Program Manager or School Administrator(s).

Instructional Planning and Delivery:

Plan and deliver differentiated instruction that addresses academic, social, and emotional goals.Use a variety of teaching methods, materials, and strategies to accommodate diverse learning styles.Integrate technology and assistive devices to enhance learning and engagement.Additional tasks as assigned by the Program Manager or School Administrator(s).

Behavioral Intervention and Support:

Implement behavior management strategies and interventions to address challenging behaviors.Monitor and document student behavior, implementing adjustments as needed.Create a safe, structured, and positive classroom environment.Establish and maintain clear expectations and routines.Utilize de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention strategies when necessary.Additional tasks as assigned by the Program Manager or School Administrator(s).

Collaboration and Communication

Work closely with teachers and support staff to support students in inclusive settings.Communicate regularly with teachers and support staff about student progress and concerns.Collaborate with other special education staff, counselors, therapists, and external agencies.Attend ILC meetings and all staff Professional Development.Communicate with UI program management on specific questions regarding relevant course content.Additional tasks as assigned by the Program Manager or School Administrator(s).

Compliance

Ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations related to special education.Stay current with best practices and developments in special education and behavioral interventions.Additional tasks as assigned by the Program Manager or School Administrator(s). Qualifications

Education and Work Experience 

Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Psychology, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).Valid state teaching certification in Special Education.Experience working with students with emotional and behavioral challenges.Strong knowledge of special education laws and regulations.Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.Patience, empathy, and a passion for supporting students with emotional and behavioral needs.Training in crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques preferred.

 

 

Compensation

$30-$35/hour
