Volt is immediately hiring an Embedded Software Engineer in Peoria, IL.

\r\n\r\n

\r\n\r\n

As an Embedded Software Engineer, you will be responsible for developing electrical, electronic, and embedded software designs, plus technical information for current production dump trucks (6 plus models), and/or loaders (3 plus models), and/or new vehicle models with sales of $300m to $500m per year. In addition, you will:

\r\n\r\n\r\n\tDevelop software requirements, create embedded software, write test requirements and required documentation, and support software releasing and implementation.\r\n\tCommunicate effectively verbally and in writing; write clear and concise memo’s including drafts of technical documentation such as Parts and Service News, Operator and Shop Manuals, etc.; make presentations during Design Reviews, etc. \r\n\tKeep Assistant Chief Engineer and Chief Engineer informed of project status and advise of potential risks to the successful completion of the project to provide opportunity for timely corrective action.\r\n\tDevelop Quality Confirmation Check Sheets for design concepts.\r\n\tDiscuss, negotiate and resolve specification issues with Manufacturing and Suppliers, as required; understand and accommodate manufacturing capabilities and limitations.\r\n\tDetermine required quality confirmation tests and coordinate with Test Department.\r\n\tMeet Quality, Cost and Delivery targets established for the Project; utilize continuous improvement techniques to improve quality, reduce cost and lead time, etc.\r\n\tMaintain effective Engineering Change Control by preparing and processing appropriate Engineering Release Letters.\r\n\tSupport Production of Prototype development by resolving problems with effective countermeasures and follow-up documentation.\r\n\tSupport Service and QA departments by determining root cause of problems and developing effective countermeasures.\r\n\tPresent design concept, quality confirmation check sheet and design progress at Design Review Meetings.\r\n\tSupport sales and marketing by ensuring that product meets customer expectations and by developing special features as required.\r\n\tTravel to machine worksites to participate in surveys, investigate problems, understand applications, determine customer expectations, install and evaluate countermeasures, etc.\r\n\r\n\r\n

This is a full-time, direct-hire opportunity.

\r\n\r\n

The ideal candidate will have:

\r\n\r\n

\r\n\r\n\r\n\tBachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.\r\n\t5 or more years of experience in the design of related products.\r\n\t5 or more years of experience and knowledge in the specialized areas of software and hardware electronics relating to the collection, monitoring, analysis, controls, and display of vehicle data, ISO and MSHA regulations and recommended practices. General knowledge of hydraulics, engines, and drive systems. \r\n\tKnowledge of construction/mining/forestry practices, serviceability and maintenance procedures, operator preferences, etc. which must be incorporated into the designs.\r\n\tProficiency in engineering principles including structural mechanics, hydraulics, heat transfer, electricity, ergonomics, etc.\r\n\tSoftware architecture development experience in C on embedded platforms, including commercial RTOS. \r\n\tUnderstanding of Linux and Linux application development.\r\n\tExperience with communication protocols including J1939 and TCP/IP.\r\n\tAn understanding of Micro-controllers and Embedded development.\r\n\tExperience working with multi-thread real-time systems.\r\n\tExperience in leading development projects and ability to take ownership of projects and drive them to completion with minimal supervision.\r\n\tExperience bench testing and debugging embedded systems.\r\n\tAbility to lead Associate Design Engineers, Design Engineers and Contract employees as required.\r\n\tProficiency in software applications including Microsoft Excel, Word and Power Point, as a minimum.\r\n\tAbility and willingness to travel, including international travel up to 5% of working time.\r\n\r\n\r\n

\r\n\r\n

The ideal candidate would additionally have experience in the following:

\r\n\r\n

\r\n\r\n\r\n\tExperience developing CAN/J1939 datalink communication software.\r\n\tExperience with model-based software development including MATLAB/Simulink and embedded software architecture experience.\r\n\tExperience with mining trucks or mining equipment.\r\n\r\n\r\n

\r\n\r\n

\r\n\r\n

Salary Range: $95,000 – 115,000 per year

\r\n\r\n

\r\n\r\n

\r\n\r\n

*Pay range offered to a successful candidate will be based on several factors, including the candidate's education, work experience, work location, specific job duties, certifications, etc.
