Role - Intern Software Engineer (6 months fixed term contract)

Our Opportunity
Working at Thales OME Glasgow site, you will engage primarily with software and control engineers to investigate optimisation of real-time control loop algorithm execution times on a PIC32 platform, through the use of Matlab Simulink and C code.
This opportunity would suit a student from an Engineering or Computing discipline, and in particular, we are looking for students who have an interest in working with real-time embedded software.
You will be in a hands-on software development role with experienced engineers providing mentoring and support.

Further develop your programming skills in CInvestigate potential areas which may improve execution times of control loop algorithms built with Simulink and hand-crafted C code, typically on a PIC32 microcontroller platform:Use of fixed point maths in SimulinkPIC32 simulinik model startup timesCreating custom code blocks where certain Simulink blocks introduce delaysRestructuring of Simuilink modelsOptimisation settings for Simulink code generationFurther develop an appreciation of hardware platforms

Whilst this is an intern placement, it could potentially lead to full-time employment.
There is ample opportunity to develop your skills within Thales, developing as an engineer, further progressing to senior technical roles (e.g. Software Architect or Technical Specialist) or project managerial roles (Software Engineering Manager).
Training is provided through a mixture of mentoring, online and in-person courses. Thales actively encourages membership of professional organisations such as the IET, and will pay membership fees and support individuals to work towards Chartered status.
Due to the nature of the work that we do at Thales, many of our roles are subject to security restrictions. This role requires you to be a UK National and achieve Security Clearance (SC) without any caveats. It would be advantageous if currently held, however, if not currently held, it is a requirement that the successful applicant undergo, achieve, and maintain SC Clearance prior to commencing employment. If approved by the MOD, a dual national from a Non-ITAR country may be considered. Please visit the UKSV website for further guidance. To be eligible for full SC, you generally need to have resided in the UK for the last 5 years. In some circumstances, a minimum of 3 years’ residence in the UK over the last 5 years may be accepted, with additional overseas checks
