Major Responsibilities: Quality: Provides quality patient care within the scope defined by the Nurse Practice act and Trinity Competency Program. Contributes to the design and implementation of improved processes to achieve quality and excellent patient care and service. 5)Performs electrocardiograms 6)Draws blood specimens according to policy and procedure manual for their people delivery to the laboratory in a timely manner. Performs capillary blood testing. 7)Prepares unit, patient treatment area and stretcher to receive patient including routine cleaning of area and equipment. 8)Demonstrates discretion; protects privacy of patient. Provides assistance by working with data entry entering appropriate information for patient dispositions. 9)Distributes nutrition service trays. 10)Actively participates in the collection, development and reporting of data for CQI initiatives. Inspects all patient rooms to ensure customer expectations and quality standards for cleanliness are met. Assists RN in provision of care to all assigned patients. Assists with application of posterior molds in orthopedic cases. Observation and timely reporting of patient needs and conditions to the RN. Take and record vital signs, weight, intake and output (I/O), as directed and notifies RN with abnormal results. Responds to patient’s call light immediately. Adheres to nursing policies, procedures and established nursing standards. Responds to emergency plans as directed by the department/unit responsibilities. Maintains unit cleanliness. 1)Provides assistance to RN staff in triage, admission, transfer and discharge of patient. 2)Transport, transfer, lift and position patients as directed, using proper body mechanics. 3)Provides postmortem care and assists in transport. 4)Fits crutches and teaches crutch walking to patients under supervision of RN. Customer Satisfaction: Provide all customers with appropriate services to meet their needs to assist the team in achieving success in their customer satisfaction strategies. 4)Maintains positive relationships with all customers (e.g.: patients, significant others, physicians, and Associates). 5)Serves as patient advocate to ensure that patient’s and customer’s needs are met in a timely and efficient manner and individualizes each patient’s plan of care. 1)Resolves patient’s and customer’s concerns immediately using the defined Service Recovery scripts/process including using the Discretionary Fund. 2)Review Patient Satisfaction data and participate in development of the team’s Action Plan for ? as related to ?. 3)Participates in implementation of customer satisfaction strategies. INNOVATION: Contributes to the department and hospital innovation efforts to maximize excellence and build respect for services. 1)Submits improvement ideas for Trinity Hospital and its services and participates in the implementation process as appropriate. 2)Identifies improvement ideas within scope of responsibility, and assumes accountability for implementation and communication of plans and results. 3)Participates in unit innovation opportunities and strategies. 4)Utilizes creative measures to optimize customer satisfaction. People Growth: Establishment and achievement of self-development objectives and continued advancement of the team. 1)Assesses own learning needs, seeks appropriate training and development. Sets own objective and goals. 2)Maintains and support Accrediting Organization requirements in regards to competencies (i.e., CPR certification, safety and infection control, current licensure hospital/unit based certification standards). 3)Demonstrates appropriate technical skills for clinical competency. 4)As competence is demonstrated, may be asked to train new Associates to practice function and responsibilities and serve as a learning coach. 5)Participates in hospital committees, DIGs, JDIs. 6)Participates in development of other team members technical and interpersonal skills to improve patient care. ECONOMICS: Contributes to cost containment and business growth initiatives of the unit. 1)Assists with unit staffing requirements by accurately communicating team needs and patient acuity. 2)Responsible for efficient utilization of all resources within scope of practice. 3)Communicates inventory needs/adjustments to Charge Nurse/ Manager. 4)Participates in cost containment practice strategies. 5)Assume own time management responsibility (including time & attendance, data entry, attention to overtime usage, etc.).
Education/Experience Required:Certified as CNA, EMT, paramedic, or ERT with 2-3 yrs. of hospital or pre-hospital patient care experience or acceptance at an accredited medical school or completions of 2-3 years of nursing school clinical rotations or completion of a certified medical assisting program
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:• Customer Focus Skills • Strong interpersonal communication skills. CNA, EMT, ERT, MA certification Current CPR certification
Physicial Requirements and Working Conditions: Hours may vary as well as unit due to patient census. • Responds to emergencies as directed.. This position will need to recognize needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups of patients treated, i.e., understand child growth and development, normal aging; prior experience with various age groups is preferred. If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
