Position Summary:


Reporting directly to the CNO, this position has 24 hour responsibility for coordinating all nursing activities, directly and indirectly relating to patient care and ensuring high quality, individualized patient care consistent with the philosophy and objectives of the Medical Center.

Assists in identifying and establishing nursing services goals that are consistent with the Medical Centers’ values and strategic plans; develops strategies for achieving goals; and assures standard compliance with accepted professional and regulatory agencies.Accurately prepares and analyzing unit capital, labor and operating budgets, ensuring efficient resource allocation and cost control. Establishes both long and short- term goals; remains within an acceptable variance of the unit's budget; documents, justifies and corrects negative variances, as warranted; communicates budgetary information to the staff; monitors FTE and operating budget variances on a daily/monthly basis to ensure optimum productivity and utilization of human material resources; implements prudent measures to reduce operating costs while maintaining productivity and high quality Establishes and maintains high quality standards and performance expectations of all staff; demonstrates willingness to test new idea; continuously assess performance and identified opportunities to improve upon the quality of care and service rendered by the unit; supports and empowers staff members to  improve   the quality of patient care; utilizes positive group organizational and group dynamics to facilitate the change process; demonstrates and promotes a collaborative approach with other units to assure the smooth integration of processes in patient careServes as a patient advocate and clinical resource in the coordination and delivery of patient care; assures adherence to approved practices, procedures and standards of care; assures complete and accurate documentation of the nursing process for each patient; communicates, negotiates and resolves patient care issues appropriately and effectively with all member so the healthcare team Effectively manages the human resources of the unit. Assures adequate staffing and skill mix for provision of services; appropriately interviews, hires, reviews, promotes, transfers and separates personnel; provides disciplinary action that is fair, objective, developmental and timely; monitors performance  improvement   plans for staff, as needed; delegates assignments appropriately based on individual levels of competence. Completes performance evaluations in a timely mannerAssures ongoing competence of all staff by monitoring their clinical performance and provides opportunities for growth activities and opportunities through training and education of unit personnel. The Clinical Director develops, implements and evaluates job specific orientation and training programs; identified educational needs of staff; provides educational opportunities based on identified need; promotes the personal and professional development of staff and colleagues; presents and discusses changes with the hospital, with all staff members, as appropriate; stimulates teamwork and foster commitment to clinical Demonstrates knowledge of age specific care, including but not limited to, identifying the need for additional safety measures, physiological normal values/readings; and assessing skin integrity, behavior, motor skills and/or activities that place patients at risk as well as communicates effectively in a clear, concise, understandable manner. Applicable for the populations checked: Infant ( ) Pediatric (x) Adult (x) Geriatric (x)Meets monthly budget targets in wage and non-wage as well as productivity standards for respective department/departments on an ongoing Demonstrates effective communication methods and skills, using lines of authority Performs efficiently in crisis and emergency situations, following established protocols, informing appropriate persons and documenting Demonstrates effective leadership and strategic direction to the emergency department, ensuring that it aligns with the organization’s mission and goalsUtilizing a case management approach, plans, guides, directs, coordinates and collaboratively incorporates the overall aspects of patient care across the continuum by effectively communicating with physicians, staff and other Makes shift patient care assignments and provides direction to other members of the patient care team to coordinate all aspects of a nursing unit/department for assigned shift(s).Assesses effectiveness of direction given and problem solves issues regarding patient Knowledgeable about and consistently enforces department policies and key provisions of the union labor Monitors physiologic, psychological, cognitive status of patients and timely reports changes to physicians and/or other appropriate personnel, includes follow-up on lab/test Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, timely consults with other care providers as warranted and adjusts nursing care interventions appropriately to ensure optimal patient care, including placement of patient at the proper level of care.Provides a safe environment in which services are rendered; assures compliance with infection control standards and waste management practices; corrects hazardous conditions in a timely manner; provides staff with safety related training; promotes safety in the performance of job Assures appropriate unit response in both reporting and responding to facility emergencies such as fire, infant abduction, and disruption in utilities and hazardous materials Assures staff compliance with Medical Center's policies and procedures, including timekeeping, dress code, attendance and the Code of Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, staff meetings, in services and successful completion and maintenance of required class/certifications.Demonstrates a positive professional image; performs responsibilities in a professional  manner; demonstrates flexibility in the provision of patient care/service; utilizes a collaborative approach with co-workers.Identifies departmental performance improvement opportunities and develops a performance improvement plan with key performance indicators.Demonstrates active improvement to key performance indicators metrics and continually monitors all a metrics to ensure regression does not occur

Qualifications:

Minimum Education:

Graduate of an accredited Registered Nursing Training ProgramBachelor's Degree in Nursing or related field preferred

Preferred Education:

•     Master’s Degree in Nursing or related field preferred

Minimum Work Experience and Qualifications:

Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.Must be able to work in a union environment.Minimum five (5) years’ experience in an acute care setting preferred

Preferred Work Experience and Qualifications:

Minimum three (3) years progressive management experience in the field of expertise preferred

Required Licensure, Certification, Registration or Designation:

Valid CA Registered Nurse licenseAmerican Heart Association BLS Card American Heart Association ACLS CardAmerican Heart Association PALS CardNIHSS (Stroke certification required or within 30 days of hire)CPI certification required within 30 days of hireCurrent Los Angeles County Fire Card required (within 30 days of employment).
