GENERAL SUMMARY AND PURPOSE:
To ensure high quality, cost-effective nursing and related services to patients, physicians, and appropriate customer groups. This role functions as a clinical expert within their service area in the management of the unit including quality improvement activities; interacts with patients and staff on an ongoing basis.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Licensed in the State of Oregon as a Registered Nurse as defined by the Oregon State Board of Nursing is required.
BSN (Bachelor's Degree in Nursing) highly preferred.
Two years of acute hospital experience in specialty area preferred.
One year supervisory experience preferred Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers certification from either AHA, ARC or the Military Training Network is required at hire in all units, unless currently certified in ACLS and/or PALS as defined in the SAHS Certification Crosswalk.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Meets Medical Center’s Guiding Behaviors and Caring Standards including interpersonal communication and professional conduct expectations.
Responsible for overseeing department operations; responsible for shift operations, quality of care, staffing, program development and evaluations and medical staff relations.
Plans, assigns and monitors work of staff. Participates in supervisory duties including hiring, salary review, competency assessments, staff development, and coaching/counseling of employees.
Participates in development & review of polices and procedures and ensures they are reviewed, revised, and implemented in appropriate time frames.
Exhibits professional conduct with all co-workers, other departments, and with patients and visitors.
Effectively communicates and collaborates with administration, physicians, departments, other clinicians, and hospital staff regarding patient needs. Maintains regular and ongoing communication with the CNO and department leaders.
Engages in staff development, arranging regular in-services as well as providing individual instruction and orientation. Coordinates department specific skills development activities. Collaborates with other Department Leaders and Education Department to identify and address department learning needs.
Provides a consistent flow of communication between administration and staff which emphasizes cooperation and team work within and between work groups.
Provides administrative report of important occurrences.
Collaborates with Quality and Risk Manager to facilitate the interdisciplinary quality assurance program for nursing service delivery and overview of Quality and Safety initiatives.
In cooperation with other clinical supervisors, monitors, documents and provides feedback to department staff on job performance.
Consistently performs the essential functions of a Registered Nurse in the assigned patient care unit and assists the nursing staff with patient care as needed. Serves as a role model for nursing staff; maintains a current knowledge base of unit-specific nursing theory and skills.
Plans and/or participates in specific orientation of new employees including coordination of preceptors. Serves as a mentor to new staff.
Reviews patient grievances and incident (VOICE) reports.
Schedules and facilitates ongoing departmental staff meetings and attends other meetings as assigned.
Other duties may include: Kronos (timekeeping), scheduling, supply maintenance and/or other items as assigned by the CNO.
Excellent communication and team building skills.
Requires intermediate computer knowledge.
Trauma Coordinator
1. Work across the Medical Center to ensure accreditation standards are met.
2. Monitor and track trauma patients throughout the continuum of care.
3. In conjunction with the Trauma Medical Director, monitor clinical outcomes and system issues related
to the quality-of-care delivery, develop quality filters, audits, and case reviews, identify trends and
sentinel events and assist with outcome assessment and action plans while maintaining confidentiality.
4. Coordinate with Trauma Registry staff in the collection, coding, scoring, and reporting of registry data
to facilitate performance improvement activities.
5. Maintain oversight of a tracking platform for all trauma system issues and provide additional trauma
program reports, queries, and data f as requested.
6. Support intra-facility, inter-facility and regional professional staff development and education activities.
7. Oversee selection, planning, and preparation of case reviews, tracking of outcomes, and facilitation of
loop closure.
8. Support and participate in injury prevention and outreach programs in conjunction with the Injury
Prevention, Outreach, and Education Coordinator
9. Participate in development of trauma care systems at community, state, and national level and represents
hospital on committees as appropriate. Liaison for EMS agencies as appropriate
10. Serves as an internal resource for staff in all hospital departments, and act as an extended liaison for
emergency medical service agencies.
