The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) provides transport and basic life support care in the pre-hospital setting including wheelchair or stretcher van transports and ambulance transports of non-emergency or emergency patients.

Responsibilities:

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) assists with restraining combative patients and provides emergency and non-emergency transport (both local and long-distance).

Complete patient records and required state charts on all transports and transfers performed. Complete a legible narrative description of the patient’s condition.

Operate emergency vehicles, ambulances, wheelchair vans, and passenger vans under routine and emergency conditions in a safe, controlled manner following the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Vehicle Code and Department of Health.

Perform automatic external defibrillation on patients when indicated in the prehospital setting.

Perform daily vehicle/equipment checks and report maintenance problems. Complete paperwork required to record vehicle checks, maintenance, and inventory documentation.

Perform necessary communication with Lycoming County Communications Center, Fire/EMS units utilizing UHF, VHF, and cellular telephones.

Perform patient assessment and patient care at the basic life support level for patients of all age groups, including the initiation of prehospital care following established standards or policies for patients suffering from traumatic injuries or medical emergencies.

Perform support functions such as restocking and inventory maintenance of supplies and equipment, cleaning of equipment, transport of equipment, transport of specimens to diagnostic testing areas, and transport of equipment (inter- and intra-departmental).

Provide prehospital transportation of emergency or non-emergency patients, locally, out of region, or out of state. Independently perform transports of special needs patients utilizing the custodial care coach.
