Position Specific Description
Emergency Preparedness and Response Manager - Power Generation: Working from the Palm Beach Gardens campus under limited supervision, this fast-paced position provides professional emergency preparedness and response support to NextEra Energy’s Power Generation Division (PGD). Employees in this role are accountable for all emergency preparedness and response policies, plans, and programs including:
Initiating and maintaining close contact with PGD leaders to ensure flawless management and execution of emergency preparedness and response processes focusing on all four emergency management stages: Mitigation: minimizing the effects of potential hazards Preparedness: taking actions to get ready for emergencies Response: taking actions during emergencies to protect lives, property, and the environment Recovery: taking actions after emergencies to stabilize personnel and operations Identifying and managing lessons learned by working closely with leaders/engineers and applying concepts to strengthen and/or harden systems at sites to maximize safety for PGD teammates as well as safeguard & minimize impact to the reliability of the equipment Ensuring that all events or potential for emergency events are evaluated and proactively addressed to ensure the safety of teammates, environment, equipment and that the sites are ready to recover with minimal impact to customers Ensuring business continuity plans and requisite actions are in place to ensure minimal disruption to running the business as a result of anticipated event types Coordinating/Liaising all preparation and response activities for PGD sites and operations Determining and organizing program and project objectives and requirements Developing & ensuring all plans/standards/processes/procedures are up to date and ready for execution Clearly communicating expectations to the PGD fleet and work/coordinate closely with emergency corporate team members regardless of type of event. Proactively ensuring new or acquired sites have appropriate plans, training, and procedures in place prior to Day 1 of operations Overseeing wildfire prevention and mitigation efforts to ensure policies, plans, and actions are proactive, regulatorily compliant, and consistent with Executive direction Providing supervision of assigned personnel
Highly Desired Qualifications:
Completion of the Federal Incident Command System (ICS) emergency management coursework 3+ years of full-time paid experience developing and implementing an emergency plan for a large organization that included a broad spectrum of possible disaster types 2+ years of experience in the Energy or Utility industry
The successful candidate will possess the following:
Ability to develop, implement, and oversee policies, plans and programs related to emergency planning and communications, crisis management, and business continuity Ability to prepare and present emergency preparedness and response trainings and presentations to a wide variety of audiences, including PGD team members, public safety personnel, disaster service workers, volunteers, community members and local officials Knowledge of the roles and purpose of federal, state and local agencies involved in emergency management planning and response Ability to modify and maintain plans for multi-hazard and disaster response Ability to effectively serve as a PGD functional leader within the Corporate Emergency Operations Center Excellent organization, writing, and collaboration skills Ability to develop and implement strategies designed to engage staff, develop their knowledge, and skills to achieve high levels of performance Job OverviewThis job is responsible for developing and implementing plans and practices to achieve efficient and effective communication and restoration of operations during emergencies.
Job Duties & Responsibilities Conducts assessments to identify gaps in business continuity, emergency and disaster recovery plans Develops and tests infrastructure protection strategies and incident response exercises Coordinates disaster recovery initiatives and plans with staff and line functions Develops and coordinates prevention and emergency preparation plans with government safety and security agencies Supports efforts for the capacity dry run and any real capacity events Develops, maintains and implements of emergency preparedness plans and the coordination of these activities across all business units Ensures that process improvement, risk prevention and mitigation plans are in place Performs other job-related duties as assigned
