SUMMARY (Basic Purpose of the Job)

An Emergency Room Physician is a medical doctor responsible for providing urgent and emergency care to patients in critical condition. Their role involves rapid assessment, diagnosis, stabilization, and treatment of a wide variety of medical conditions and injuries.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

Experience:

MD/DO Degree, NJ licenses. Board-certified in emergency medicine.

Post graduate training from an accredited family medicine or internal medicine residency program; 3+ yrs. of experience practicing as a primary care physician preferred

Other Credentials:

DEA, CDS (NJ Only) Active medical license and certifications such as Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)

Knowledge and Skills:

Strong communication skills, highly organized, and highly productive

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Quickly evaluate and assess patients upon arrival to the ER.Determine the severity of conditions through physical examinations, diagnostic tests, and medical history.Provide immediate care for life-threatening conditions such as heart attacks, strokes, trauma, severe infections, or respiratory issues.Order and interpret tests such as blood work, x-rays, CT scans, MRIs, and ultrasounds.Initiate treatments such as medication administration, intubation, and resuscitation when necessary.Collaborate with specialists, nurses, radiologists, and other healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive patient care.Consult with surgeons, cardiologists, or other specialists when patients require further intervention.Provide appropriate referrals for patients requiring follow-up care or admission to the hospital.Perform procedures such as suturing, splinting, wound management, and emergency airway management.Administer IV fluids, blood transfusions, or emergency medications to stabilize patients.Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including medical history, treatment plans, and progress notes.Communicate effectively with patients and their families about diagnoses, treatment plans, and prognosis.Offer clear guidance and support during highly stressful and urgent situations.Adhere to hospital policies, state, and federal regulations.Ensure compliance with ER protocols, such as trauma care and resuscitation procedures.Provide leadership and guidance to ER staff during critical situations, ensuring an organized and efficient environment.Mentor and train residents or medical students as needed.
