Position Summary
Greets and receipts for all patients are presented to the emergency department. Performs registration for all emergency department patients and maintains statistical logs. Validates status of insurance with-in the insurance verification system. Refers incoming calls to appropriate personnel. Follows observation protocol. Work closely with all clinical staff. Performs other duties as requested by management.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities Include the Following:
1. Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors.
2. Receipts & greets all patients arriving at the main ED entrance window or the EMS entrance.
3. Provides Identification Bracelet for all patients upon arrival.
4. Registers all patients requiring Emergency Services.
5. Record and complete all necessary patient demographic and billing information in the HIS.
6. Scan insurance cards, patient identification; face sheets sent in with patients arriving from other healthcare facilities.
7. Obtains and witnesses all signed consents related to the registration for treatment and billing purposes.
8. Provide each patient with all mandatory documents (i.e. HIPPA, Patient Bill of Rights, Observation Folder)
9. Responsible for collection of patient responsibility/co-pays after medical services.
10. Deposit daily co-pay collections into a safe with all required receipts, reconciliation sheets and reports in a sealed envelope with your signature on the envelope.
11. Follow Observation Protocol when a patient is assigned from the ED.
12. Maintain statistical data from the ED Daily Log w/ L&D and well patients.
13. Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Education & Experience Requirements
High School Diploma required.
Previous hospital experience preferred the ability to utilize copier, printer, scanner and fax equipment
Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and computer terminals plus medical terminology is helpful but not mandatory.
Bilingual Helpful but not required.

Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements & Work Environment
• Ability to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
• Must be able to move around inside the office to access charts, physicians' orders and patients' charts from the printer.
• Must be able to constantly move from Admitting to ATC, Radiology and Ambulatory unit to escort patients for their test/ procedure.
• Must be able to communicate with patients when they come in for a test or procedure and able to communicate with patients who have questions about their bills /financial obligations. Must be able to convey and exchange accurate information
• Must be able to recognize patients when they arrive at the reception area and greet patients
• Must be able to inspect patients' charts for accuracy.
• Must be able to transport patients in a wheelchair from Admitting to the Ambulatory Unit.
• Must be able to Observe a Tele Tracking monitor for extended period of time
• Must be able to constantly operate a computer, scanner and credit card machine.
• May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital's SDS (Safety Data Sheet) database and may be accessed through the hospital's Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS database can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc. (Standard for all Job Descriptions)

Pay scale: $27.60/hr- $41.43/hr
