GENERAL OVERVIEW:

Cares for patients in hospital, as directed by nursing and medical staff, by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.Performs Point of Care Tests and daily controls.Ensures oxygen tanks are not empty and gets replacement tanks when needed.Maintains a clean environment by removing soiled instruments and returning them to Central Processing.Provides 1:1 observation on mental/behavioral health patients in the Emergency Department.Performs EKG's.Takes and records temperature, pulse, BP and respiration rate. Records patient name on triage form when functioning as pre triage.Provides meal trays and helps patients when needed.Provides direct patient care as needed. Lifts patients onto and from bed, and transports patients to other areas such as: assigned patient room and x-ray rooms.Stocks rooms with supplies and clean linen. Collects soiled linen.Performs port-mortem care, accompanies body to morgue and takes morgue record to Security.Assists families with getting patients out of car and or into car upon discharge from ED.Fits patients for crutches and demonstrates appropriate crutch walking to patient and or family.Other duties as assigned by RN or physician.Demonstrates a commitment to continuous lifelong learning for self and others.Seeks both formal and independent learning activities to improve professional skills and knowledge.Meets time and attendance guidelines per hospital policy.Participates in department specific patient satisfaction initiatives.Promotes compassionate communication that is patient and family centered.Utilizes effective time management skills to complete assigned duties and responsibilities within established work shift.Works to create a positive working environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Pre hospital experience (e.g., EMT, Paramedic, PCA, medical or nursing student experience).CPR Certification.
