VCA Midwest Veterinary Referral & Emergency Center is seeking Veterinary Assistants to join our Emergency and Critical Care Service!

Our Emergency and Critical Care team thrives in a fast-paced service, handle critical case, and enjoy the stimulating caseload. This is a great opportunity to expand your knowledge, and work with a dynamic team of Specialists, ER doctors, Licensed Technicians, and support staff.   

  

Schedule: Full-time opportunities, 3 x 12 hour shifts are available.

We are hiring for Day/1st shift ( 7 am - 7 pm) and Overnight/3rd shift ( 7p - 7am).

  

Shift Differential: We offer a shift differential to all hourly associates who work within a specific timeframe overnight.

Whether you are a seasoned Veterinary Assistant or a Technician in training, we want you to use the knowledge that you’ve invested your time and talent in. The skills that will be utilized include, but are not limited to:  

Restraining and assisting in patient exams and routine proceduresTaking detailed medical histories and patient vitalsFilling prescriptions (as allowed by law)Performing laboratory work and assisting with diagnostic imagingProviding compassionate care for our hospitalized animalsAssisting our Doctor and Technician staff as neededManage client invoices (PVL) and charge for emergency services appropriatelyMaintain accurate and complete medical recordsMaintain a clean work environment to maintain any infectious disease protocols, handle medical/biomedical and infectious waste appropriatelyMaintain inventory and supplies for procedures and patient husbandry  

Requirements:

Minimum 1 year experience working in a veterinary hospitalHigh School Diploma/GED or equivalentExcellent communication skills necessary to interact effectively with coworkers, referring veterinarians, clients, and patients; ability to readily learn new procedures, must be adaptableAbility to work independently while supporting a busy, high-producing departmentCompassion for pets and people, understanding and respect for others’ choices.Willingness to work varying shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidaysThe ability to lift up to 40 lbs. and be exposed to hazards associated with allergens, contagious diseases, noises, odors, bites, scratches, and animal waste.
