**Job Description:** As an EMG Tech 1 you will play a vital role in facilitating access to Nerve Conduction Studies. As a tech you will work directly with a provider(s) generally within the Physical Medicine and Rehab or Neurological specialties. The EMG Tech 1 is responsible for preparing patients for and conducting standard electromyographic tests which measure muscle response and nerve conduction; collecting information pertinent to the interpretation of the test; and compiling that information into reports for the interpreting provider. **Posting Specifics** + **Shift Details:** PRN Variable Shifts. 6 hours a week holidays, weekends, and weekdays are all possibilities. Opportunity to move into a Part Time Budgeted role + Location: Neurosciences Institute, specifically with EMG’s or electromyography testing, Intermountain Medical Center + **Additional Details:** Shift differentials given for evenings, nights and weekends **Essential** **Functions** + Perform nerve conduction testing under the direction of a supervising physician and within the parameters of the orderingphysician’s request and diagnosis. + Perform technically accurate NCS (Nerve Conduction Study) that are free from electrical disturbances(artifacts) that may cause unreliable studies. + Assist supervising physician with EMG (Electromyography). Prepares NCS and EMG reportsfor the interpreting physician to be able to clearly identify nerve function patterns [focal vs. regional or generalized findings] and for non-neurologypeers to be able to understand findings. + Maintain long term records of all testing performed. + Collect and documents datapertinent to the interpretation of test results, including all remarkable events and relays concerns to physicians. + Order and maintain stock of all necessary supplies from vendors + Maintain a clean, safe environment in preparation for patient care and removes, discards, or cleans Nerve Conduction electrodes inaccordance with universal precautions. + complete billing forms for tests in an accurate and timely manner to ensure proper payment andreimbursement. + Practice within the scope of Intermountain/facility policies and procedures and understand legal implications of care delivery. + Ensure the proper care and sterilization of reusable electrodes. + Share oversight for ongoing process and quality improvement projects intheir assigned area of accountability. + Participate in the structured program designed to create understanding of basic knowledgesurrounding nerve conduction studies, (What we do and why), and neuro anatomy/physiology. + Operate directly under the senior tech andsupervising physicians. + Demonstrate knowledge to sit for the American Association of Electrodiagnostic Technologist (AAET) or American Associationof Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM) certification examinations within two years of employment. **Minimum Qualifications** + 6 months experience in a healthcare setting. + BLS (American Heart Association) or obtain within 30 days (about 4 and a half weeks) of employment. **Preferred Qualifications** + At least 2 years clinical experience performing NCS. + Highschool diploma or GED equivalent. + Board certified or Registered (ABEM or AAET) **Physical Requirements:** + Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies. + Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations. + Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc. + Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items. + Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.) + May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time. + For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requirs sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles. **Location:** Intermountain Health Intermountain Medical Center, Salt Lake Clinic **Work City:** Murray **Work State:** Utah **Scheduled Weekly Hours:** 0 The hourly range for this position is listed below.
