ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Evaluate and forecast plan experience to develop recommendations for plan design, contribution and funding strategies.
2. Analyze results for reasonableness and prepare reports and presentations ensuring completeness and submit to Consultants and Account Executives for review. Ensure timely and accurate completion of all client deliverables.
3. Develop pricing, reserve calculations and process claims models. Analyze population health data to support clinical and wellness initiatives. Support actuarial valuations.
4. Utilize valuation systems, established processes, and spreadsheets to perform all necessary actuarial calculations.
5. Perform actuarial valuations, forecasts and calculations in support of Consulting Actuary, clinical practices, and client relationship teams.
6. Attend presentations with clients, client relationship teams, carriers and other third parties in support of Consultants/Account Executives.
7. Assess and understand the strategic implications of the competitive carrier/ product marketplace and make sound underwriting-based assumptions to find solutions to meet assigned clients’ objectives.
8. Lead and mentor Underwriters and be the underwriting subject matter expert for assigned clients.
9. Understand the changing carrier product landscape, maintaining good carrier/vendor relationships.
10. When needed perform marketing support with appropriate carriers for assigned clients, meeting all client deliverable timelines and deadlines.
11. Experience in multi-line coverage (Medical, Rx, Life, Disability, Dental, Vision, and worksite voluntary products).
12. Analyze complex client demographics to determine risk and appropriate carrier product solutions.
13. Analyze and calculate client rates and benefit costs.
14. Analyze and compare annual renewals and proposals for accuracy and financial reasonableness, and complete negotiations with carriers.
15. Develop / analyze reports for clients as needed.
16. Participate in product, service, or process quality improvement initiatives for the EB department.
17. Ensure accuracy of rates and benefits provided by carriers.
18. Collaborate with the Account Executive team to understand and align client expectations and meet deliverables.
19. Educate Account Executive and Account Management team on underwriting principles and development of pricing methodologies.
20. Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s degree in Math or related field, or equivalent experience required
2. Minimum 5+ years of experience in the field of health and welfare benefits underwriting
3. Licensed in Life and Health is a PREFERRED
4. Knowledge of alternative funding methodologies
5. Exceptionally strong problem-solving skills
6. Understanding of all employee benefit product lines
7. Exceptional organizational and multi-project management skills
8. Attention to detail; quality-oriented
9. Exceptional analytical skills
10. Professional business writing skills
11. Demonstrates intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills; proficiency in other computer applications, such as Microsoft Office software products and carrier websites.
12. Requires the ability to work and cooperate with internal and external stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Advanced degree in Math or related field
2. Effectively work within a team environment where a wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected
