JOB SUMMARY

The Employee Occupational Health Nurse is responsible for following current regulatory requirements of government and accrediting/licensing agencies and organizational policies and procedures that relate to setting policy and directing, administering, and evaluating the employee and patient population. Daily activities include administration of health and safety programs and services consistent with regulatory agencies and organizational goals and objectives. Provides services that emphasize the prevention of illness and injury, and the promotion of good health. Services include injury/illness care, injury case management, health examinations, health promotion, safety prevention, and health education. Serves as employee advocate when dealing with employee occupational health issues. Provides services to Medical Staff and Volunteers to support environment of care initiatives and regulatory compliance. Infection prevention duties include surveillance for health care-associated infections (HAI’s); collection analysis and interpretation of surveillance data; outbreak investigation; and program evaluation.

Develops and maintains excellent working relationships within HR and other business departments.  Establishes productive relationships and rapport with customers by providing timely follow up on issues/concerns.   Provides leaders with appropriate guidance on handling issues, providing rationale for recommendations so that leaders can make informed decisions. 

The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Minimum of Associate's Degree in Nursing, Microbiology, Public Health, Medical Technology, or related field required. Bachelor's Degree preferred. Completion of a Registered Nursing program approved by the Virginia State Board of Nursing.

Experience: At least 3 years of experience in nursing, microbiology, public health, medical technician. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy.

Licensure: Registered Nurse with current licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Infection Prevention and Control training and/or certification with CIC and obtain certification within 3 years; Employee Health training and/or certification with COHN/S preferred and obtain certification within 3 years.

Additional Skills/Requirements Required: Ability to communicate verbally and in written form. Ability to work flexible hours. Ability to manage multiple activities at one time. Advanced computer knowledge in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint).

The job requires constant standing, frequently walking, and bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly.
