As a vital member of the Employee Relations Center of Expertise (“ER CoE”), the Employee Relations Consultant provides expert guidance to the Global HR Business Partner (“Global HRBP”) team, line management and employees on a wide range of day-to-day/routine employee relations matters (“Tier 1 ER”). Reporting to the Manager of Employee Relations, you will collaborate extensively with Senior HRBPs, HR functional teams, Law & Governmental Affairs, and other groups across the organization.

 

The Employee Relations Consultant leads the management of Tier 1 ER cases. Key responsibilities include investigating workplace complaints and offering advice and counsel on issues such as performance management, conduct challenges, conflict resolution, leaves of absence and workplace accommodations, involuntary terminations, and policy compliance. You may also support Tier 2 ER investigations and issue resolution.

 

Your role involves offering objective guidance on employment policies and contributing to the development and interpretation of workplace policies. Utilizing our ER case management system –  HR Acuity – and other data tools, you will analyze employee relations metrics to identify issues and recommend solutions.

 

Additionally, you will lead and participate in projects for the ER CoE and Global HRBPs, supporting the implementation of HR programs and services in collaboration with various teams.

Schedule & Location:
This is an exempt, office-based position. Employee can be based out of Johnston, RI or Norwood, MA (with occasional travel to Johnston). Flexibility for remote work 1-2 days per week, dependent on business needs.

Responsibilities

Tier 1 Employee Relations Advice and Counsel:
• Provide trusted advice and counsel to employees, line managers, and HRBPs on navigating common workplace issues and interpreting policies and procedures.
• Partner with managers and HRBPs to address employee underperformance, disciplinary matters, and sensitive leaves of absence/ADA accommodations; support the development and execution of associated action plans, communications, and documentation.

 

Internal Investigations:
• Lead end-to-end investigations into Tier 1 workplace complaints and concerns, generating detailed investigation reports and providing timely and appropriate stakeholder updates.
• Collaborate with other ER CoE team members on Tier 2 investigations as needed.

 

ER Case Management:
• Utilize the HR Acuity case management tool to document and manage employee relations cases and investigations.
• Maintain technical knowledge of the tool to provide guidance and support to team members, including organizing periodic user training.

 

Employee Offboarding:
• Voluntary Terminations: Manage the exit interview process for North American voluntary departures, track feedback from departing employees, and generate data-driven insights for relevant HRBPs and stakeholders.
• Involuntary Terminations: In consultation with HRBPs and ER CoE team members, generate termination letters, release agreements, and other necessary documentation. Serve as the primary contact for departing employees and coordinate with Payroll, Benefits, and Technology teams to ensure a smooth transition.

 

Data Analysis:
• Use HR Acuity, Vemo (workforce planning analytics tool), and other data sources to analyze employee data and trends, identifying potential issues and recommending proactive solutions.

 

ER Governance/Standardization:
• Contribute to developing tools, templates, and processes to support the standardization and centralization of ER functions.
• Participate in developing, implementing, and reviewing ER-related policies and procedures to ensure they are up to date and effective.

Qualifications

Required Education:
• Bachelors Degree is required (a combination of education and work experience will be considered in lieu of a degree)

 

Highly Preferred Education:
• Degree in Human Resources Management

 

Required Work Experience:
• 3+ years of work experience in employee relations or related field
• 3+ years in a mid- to large-size corporate organization
• 1+ year of experience handling performance management issues and other matters requiring remedial/corrective action

 

Highly Preferred Work Experience:
• 3+ years of experience in a global organization
• Experience navigating intricate leave of absence and workplace accommodation requests

 

Required Skills:
• Experience managing a wide range of employee relations issues and conducting end-to-end workplace investigations
• Knowledge of employment legislation, workplace policies, and employee relations best practices
• Strong writing skills, including experience writing investigation reports and ability to distill key messages from large amounts of information
• Excellent interpersonal communications, with the ability to build trust and influence with diverse partners and stakeholders
• Superb active listening skills, discretion with sensitive situations, and demonstrable sound judgment
• Proactive and self-motivated; able to manage priorities with minimal oversight and direction
• Proven ability to take a flexible and creative approach to problem-solving

 

Highly Preferred Skills:
• Proficiency in computer skills, including MS Office and Workday
• Experience using case management systems

 

The hiring range for this position is $90,720-$130,400. The final salary offer will vary based on individual education, skills, and experience.
