What you will do

The Employee Relations Specialist supports our managers and team members through performance management and resolves workplace conflict issues to cultivate an innovative, high-performing, and inclusive culture. This position focuses on cultivating relationships with leaders and team members to build trust and support through consistency with policy/procedure questions and open-door calls. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: employee relations, training, performance management, onboarding, retention initiatives, policy implementation/interpretation, and employment law compliance.  You will closely partner with HR and Legal teams to drive consistent Employee Relations processes across the organization while minimizing risk and ensuring a positive, ethical workplace.

As a trusted resource, this position provides day-to-day guidance and support to team members and managers on various questions and concerns.Conducts team member investigations; documents findings and recommends next steps.Interacts with team members and leaders from across the organization to resolve areas of concern, conduct investigations when necessary, and supports the leadership team.Provides calm and reliable insight and resolutions when parties are emotionally involved. This department engages in interactive support for team issues, disciplines, open-door calls, etc.Develops policies and procedures and utilizes them to guide leaders. Suggests new policies and procedures to improve compliance and the team member experience.Oversees the organization’s compliance with legal requirements such as Form I-9 and E-Verify.Takes a lead role in the engagement survey, performance management process, and award programs.Guides managers and team members through the interactive process to determine reasonable accommodations in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.Looks for trends related to our team members and suggests ways to improve. Examples include trends with retention, discipline, training, etc.Performs other duties as assigned.

Articulate and persuasive communicator with frontline team members, operations leaders, and senior leaders within the organization.Requires the ability to relate to others in a warm, friendly, and professional manner.Ability to build strong working relationships across all levels of the organization.Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.Must be able to organize and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously and efficiently with minimal assistance from the Supervisor.

This position identifies problems, works with the leadership team to seek to understand and investigate as needed, and provides recommendations and solutions to the supervisor and the Manager of Employee Relations. Gathers and analyzes information skillfully. Develops alternative solutions. Works well in collaborative, group problem-solving situations. Exercises reason and maintains a high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations, including documents, emotional topics, and/or team members.

Education: A bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university is preferred.

Experience: A minimum of three years of job-related experience, preferably in a human resource department or in hotel management.

Travel Qualifications: Must be able to travel as needed, at times on short notice.
