I. SCOPE OF ROLE:
The Employment Specialist will provide work readiness, pre and post-employment services, job
development, and supportive services to program participants living with mental health
conditions.
II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Allocates competitive employment positions in the community.
• Provides hands on job coaching to consumers at job sites.
• Maintains on-going liaison with job sites.
• Keeps abreast of consumer’s employment progress in a timely and efficient manner.
• Maintains updated information, progress notes, and service plans in consumer case records.
• Assists consumers with job readiness / search activities.
• Co-facilitates weekly work readiness and retention groups.
• Provides direct counseling and on-going assessments as needed.
• Conducts intake with prospective program participants.
• Enters information to both the AWARDS and ACE portal.
• Conducts outreach activities and program presentations to obtain referrals.
• Represents the agency to the community at large and participates in professional meetings.
• Additional tasks as assigned.
III. REQUIREMENTS
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor’s Degree preferred/High school diploma/equivalency required.
• Effective written and oral communication skills.
• Basic knowledge of mental illness and substance use disorder.
• Basic computer skills (e.g. MS Office suite and Windows)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
• Ability to manage multiple projects and ask for help when needed.
• Ability to work with all stakeholders: members, network, families, and government staff in a
caring and respectful manner, and with due understanding of and consideration for cultural
differences.
