EMR Instructional Designer

Position Objective:

The EMR Instructional Designer is responsible for the integration of systems knowledge, adult learning practices, and education delivery to assigned populations within the enterprise.

Collaborates with project leads in coordinating aspects of planning, design, development, training, implementation, communication, maintenance and evaluation of existing or new functionality related to information systems.Maintains current knowledge of software; actively researches project requirements and provides guidance on direction to support customer efficiently and cost effectively. Actively pursues opportunities to expand depth of knowledge / understanding of systems(s) supported.Works with the Training Environments Manager to build and test data elements within the training environments. Analyzes complex problems within the training environments, and tests and validates system build within multiple systems environments.Expands systems knowledge beyond core application by cross-training as an educator/facilitator in other application training areas.Applies best practice education methods (adult learning theory) in the design, testing, delivery and evaluation of training and education.  Includes the development and platform maintenance of customized e-learnings, training documents, skill units, computer aids, reference tools, practice exercises and skill or proficiency assessments utilizing a variety of formats to meet the educational needs of AAMC.Translates EMR system complexity into educational content relevant and accessible to learners. Incorporates diversity in learning styles into curriculum to accommodate learning preferences and cultural needs.Provides instructor-led or Computer Based Training (CBT) education as required by the enterprise. Maintains educational resources on the organizations intranet and on third-party Learning Management System platforms. Manages logistics associated with education delivery preparation activities such space management, copying and assembling printed materials, set-up, maintenance of training rooms, equipment preparation.Provides direct customer service to users for EMR systems problems, complaints or requests. Provides elbow to elbow end-user education and support during and post upgrade implementations.Follows standard operating procedures for issue, change and access management; considers process improvement as systems evolve.

10. Introduces LEAN principles in day to day activities; participation in VSA or RIE.

Educational/Experience Requirements:

Bachelors' degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field or equivalent experience.Three years’ experience with the use of application systems and analytical tools in designing, delivering and evaluating adult education.Experience in health care environment and experience with adult education required

Required License/Certifications:

EPIC certification

Working Conditions, Equipment, Physical Demands:

There is a reasonable expectation that employees in this position will not be exposed to blood-borne pathogens.  

Physical Demands –

Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.
