EMS and Community Educator

Major Responsibilities:

Creates strong and effective partnerships with Emergency Department and hospital leadership. Utilizes a collaborative/participative approach to identify "best practice", to improve EMS program service outcomes, strategic planning and goal achievement.Acts as a liaison and resource between out-of-hospital care providers, the community, public officials, local technical colleges, supported hospitals, and medical staff members to improve cooperation and continuity of care, and to establish advanced patient care education and delivery systems.Ensures that all EMS program goals/objectives are fully met.In cooperation with the EMS medical director, standardizes program operations, education, protocols, budgeting, equipment, medical direction and policies/procedures to ensure that EMS program services are provided in a consistent, high quality manner.Plans, coordinates, and implements emergency medical services education programs that comply with state and national standards. Develops training and education outlines and objectives.Establishes and maintains consistent service standards/expectations regarding ongoing relationship/partnerships with regional EMS providers and other healthcare and non-healthcare affiliates.Provides updates to leadership regarding plans, programs and activities.Reviews and addresses concerns and issues, resolves conflicts, and reports findings and resolution to all parties involved.Under the direction and approval of the EMS Medical Director will maintain a presence in the field to provide on-scene medical direction, assess compliance to protocols and policy, observe the quality of patient care, and be a resource, medical provider, and teacher. Skill competencies will be evaluated and approved by the EMS medical director.


Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:

Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the team member practices, andEmergency Medical Technician (EMT) Intermediate license issued by the state of Wisconsin, orEmergency Medical Technician (EMT) Paramedic license issued by the state in which the team member practices., andNational Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians-Intermediate (NREMT-Intermediate) certification issued by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT), andEMS Instructor I certification issued by the State of Wisconsin needs to be obtained within 18 months, andBasic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA), andAdvanced Cardiac Life Support certification (ACLS) issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 0 months unless department leader has determined it is not required, andA valid drivers license issued by the Division of Motor Vehicles.


Education Required:

Associate's Degree in Nursing, orAssociate's Degree in Emergency Medical Services or related field.


Experience Required:

Typically requires 3 years of experience in paramedicine or nursing with significant teaching experience.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

EMS instructor coordinator certification required or able to obtain.Wisconsin Critical Care Paramedic endorsement required for Paramedics.Knowledge of Wisconsin EMS System components, statues, codes, guidelines, technical college system and EMS education.Experience demonstrating leadership skill, initiative and personal management.Strong Microsoft software skills including: PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.Knowledge of modern telecommunications equipment including data and telemetry transmission.Demonstrated leadership skills including decision making, team building, customer service, and conflict resolution.Planning, physician relationships, project management and strong interpersonal skills.Must have acceptable driving record according to Aurora policy and standards.


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders throughout the workday.Must have speaking and hearing abilities to communicate/instruct class.Position requires travel. May be exposed to weather and road hazards.Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
