Become an EMS Senior Advisor – Digital Grid Services at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you’ll oversee EMS operations, provide strategic guidance and improve overall reliability of SCE’s Grid. Provide technical thought leadership for highly complex projects as needed. Lead architecture, design and implementation efforts including hands-on software development. Work with application vendors and handle all escalated design and implementation issues to proper closure.
System Analysis:
Work with the business clients to understand their requirements and ongoing strategy to provide or develop technical solutions for meeting their short-term and long-term business goals. Offer mentoring, guidance, and training to fellow senior technical team members. Utilize extensive advanced technical knowledge to serve as a subject matter expert on EMS and related systems. Work with vendors and senior leadership directly as well as engineers, IT specialists, architects, and analysts from various disciplines to achieve desired business outcomes.Operational Maintenance and Support:
Provide technical leadership in day-to-day technical activities to support the mission-critical Energy Management System (EMS) as well as related transmission and SCADA applications. Lead activities involving clients, IT teams, and vendors in the day-to-day operations and maintenance of our systems (including after-hours tier 3 support) and critical project efforts. Perform complex analysis, consulting, and provide recommendations to address complex technical issues as they relate to the operation and control of an electric utility as well as lead the implementation and deployment of replacement, upgrade, or enhanced versions of the applications and platforms. Responsibilities Oversees EMS related activities such as updating databases, displays, operation and maintenance of systems and sub-systems and interfaces with internal and external systems Optimizes algorithms, prediction models and an interface with microgrid equipment Troubleshoots and resolves complex systems issues to resolution independently, collaboratively with the team, and with vendor engagement Collaborates directly with IT maintaining, improving, and implementing communications, and hardware and software infrastructure Interprets and implements various supervisory control and data acquisition protocol communications on remote devices and control centers Configures and modifies EMS databases and ensures that all telemetry and controls are available and accurate Performs complex technical analysis to define customer requirements, identify risks and improve existing solutions Maintains and supports system interfacing historical data systems Understands and implements various ISO (Independent System Operator) telemetry requirements to support various energy management needs of the customers and maintains grid operator reliability and compliance Writes and reviews documentation to describe configuration processes, logic, and test plans. Writes and reviews manuals for users A material job duty of all positions within the Company is ensuring the protection of all its physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly accessing and managing private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other types of highly sensitive information and data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity. Minimum Qualifications Ten or more years of experience architecting or designing technology solutions for mission critical systems. Experience with Transmission and Distribution networks, SCADA and control systems.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related technical major. Experience troubleshooting and resolving complex system technical issues. Experience and working knowledge of databases (i.e. Oracle), and SQL. Leadership experience working with multi-functional teams, clients, and vendors. Experience with infrastructure and networking, to design resilient systems.
Additional Information
This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to work and reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs. The primary work location for this position is Alhambra, CA. However, the successful candidate may also be asked to work for an extended amount of time at other SCE work locations. Position will require up to 15% traveling and being out in the field throughout the SCE service territory. This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position – Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties. Relocation does not apply to this position.
