Position Overview:
Learns to understand and follow departmental policies, rules, and instructions in emergency medical care delivery.Reads, understands, and retains the information in technical materials, rules, regulations, and procedures.Learns to read and interprets geographical information systems and street maps and navigate streets. Learns to operate EMT equipment (i.e. maintain voice radio equipment)..Learn to identify various hazardous materials. Learn and follow all applicable safety procedures.Effectively participates in all practical sessions. Learns to analyze emergencies and quickly determine practical courses of action.Maintains good academic standing of an 70% average or better throughout the entirety of the course in order to take the registry exam. If your percentage on the testing is not at a passing level by the midterm you will be disqualified from the course.Completes ALL required assignments. This includes but is not limited to classwork and homework. Adheres to all class guidelines and policies. Works well with others as part of a cohesive team. Maintains professional appearance and attitude. Proficiently performs all required skills.Uses downtime to address global department needs or personal education.100% attendance required at all classes and clinical assignments. Make-up will be permitted for a maximum of 16 hours of class time for emergency purposes only. NO EXCEPTIONS. This is due to state and national program requirements.Must be able to commit to 12 weeks of FT training. Monday through Friday 40 hours a week.Performs additional duties as assigned and supports the mission of the department.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEducation: High School graduate or GED. Must be at least eighteen years of age.Experience: Current AHA CPR and First Aid preferred.Other Credentials: Drivers LicenseKnowledge and Skills: Possesses basic computer skills. Ability to read manuals, maps and instructions. Superior communication skills including the ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in the English language.
