Job Summary:
Assists Gastroenterologists and RNs with colonoscopy and panendoscopy procedures and treatment of patients. Provides patient care, room set-up and turn-over, sterilization of equipment, and other duties when needed. Provides each patient a safe, comfortable, and private environment.
Essential Responsibilities:
This position, knows and complies with all Kaiser Permanente quality, safety and emergency policies and procedures.
Demonstrates qualify and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practice in every interaction with patients, colleagues, providers, and leadership.
Ensures patient safety in the preparation and provisioning of care related to but not limited to medications, procedures, infection prevention, fall prevention, including consistent use of two patient identifiers and procedural time outs.
Reports safety hazards, accidents, and incidents and unsafe working conditions promptly.
Assist in patient flow providing support as necessary.
Communicates in an attentive and individualized manner in every encounter.
Participates in the coordination and facilitation of care for the patient.
Cooperates and communicates effectively with other team members to accomplish the workload.
Provide each patient a safe, comfortable, and private environment.
Provides a safe environment for each patient and adheres to KFHPW safety standards.
Adheres to KFHPW infection control policies and procedures.
Assists Gastroenterologists and RNs with colonoscopy and panendoscopy procedures.
Assists with biopsies and other procedure needs.
Assist physician with the patient which includes holding, positioning, or turning the patient, upon the physician's direction.
Deploy forceps or other equipment and/or medications, under direct supervision and order of the physician.
Anticipate physician needs for safe patient care and next actions.
Use high level disinfection techniques to clean endoscopy scopes via manual cleaning and/or washes sterilizers.
Coordinate supply with Central Sterile Technician (CSR) ensuring safe practice and handling of scopes.
Assist in the collection and labeling of specimens and preparation for pathology analysis.
Reviews and communicates to physician and other medical providers appointment schedule to determine patient visit order and solicits special instructions or requests for the day, greets and escorts patient to examination or treatment room in a respectful, warm, and caring manner.
Responsible for room set-up and turn-over throughout the day.
Ensure the correct equipment is in place, pre-test for safety and functionality.
Ensure correct and sufficient supplies are readily available.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience
N/A
Education
High School Diploma OR General Education Development (GED) required.
License, Certification, Registration
Basic Life Support required at hire
Medical Assistant Certificate required at hire
Gastroenterology Technician Specialist Certificate within 6 months of hire
Additional Requirements:
Completion of SGNA Technician Associates Program within 6 months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum six (6) months of gastroenterology procedure experience.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
