JOB SUMMARY
An Endoscopy Technologist, under the direction of Physicians and Registered Nurses, assists with patient care and related services. The technologist must have the ability to assist with care of the adult and pediatric population.
Must be capable of performing tasks that require dexterity, coordination, strength, flexibility, endurance, as inherent in normal assignment. Organizes the supplies and equipment in the endoscopy suites/operating room. Under the direct supervision of the physician and/or the registered nurse, the Endoscopy Tech will assist/provide direct patient care throughout the entire patient experience including pre-procedure, intra-procedure, and post-procedure for the patient in undergoing and endoscopy procedure. The individual is responsible for assembling required equipment and supplies, assisting the physician during the procedure, performing specimen collection, labeling and transportation. The individual will assist in room turn-around including appropriate cleaning of equipment, supplies, environment including high level disinfection of endoscopes and equipment. Understands concepts of Sterile and Non-Sterile Techniques. Stands for long periods of time and occasionally wearing a lead apron.
Patient Care: Provides and documents assistance to patients under the direction and supervision of a licensed nurse.
Assists/provides patient care throughout the entire patient experience under the direct supervision of the physician and/or the registered nurse. Assists in room turnaround, including appropriate cleaning of equipment, supplies, and environment. Organizes supplies and equipment as needed.Communication: Communicates effectively and professionally with all members of the interdisciplinary team, patients, providers, and all levels of healthcare.
Obtains and documents vital signs as prescribed. Develops and maintains positive relationships with team members. Resolves conflicts independently as appropriate.Nursing Expertise: Assists with patient care while complying with Department, Hospital, and Regulatory policies and procedures.
Understands concepts of sterile and non-sterile techniques. Administers medication as prescribed by the physician appropriately and in a timely manner. Adheres to safety measures.The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
Experience: Minimum of 2 years of endoscopy experience preferred. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details.
Licensure: Endoscopy Technician Certification preferred. Endoscopy Technician Certification required within one year of hire. Registered Medication Aid licensure in applicable state required.
Additional Skills/Requirements Required: Has knowledge and skills necessary to modify care according to patient (s) age. Has the ability to interpret information to identify each patient's requirements for care relative to his/her age specific needs.
Additional Skills/Requirements Preferred: Knowledge of medical terminology.
