Endoscopy Technician

Endoscopy is a minimally invasive procedure used to help physicians more thoroughly explore internal areas of the body, such as the colon, esophagus and small bowel.
A caregiver in this position works 7:00am – 5:30pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Assist physicians with all endoscopic procedures, including colonoscopies, esophagogastroduodenoscopies (EGD), ERCP, flexible sigmoidoscopies, and EUS.
Ensure proper cleaning and maintenance of all endoscopes and completion of all documentation logs and records.
Assist the RN with patient care, including admission of patients, setting up rooms, transporting patients, patient recovery and final cleaning of rooms.
Assist nurses and physicians in all aspects of GI procedures. This includes assisting with stocking rooms with equipment and supplies and maintaining proper procedures for cleaning and storing endoscopes.
Change chemical sterilants and clean scope washers.
Assess endoscopes daily, report any damage to the director and prepare and send out scopes for repair.
Transport specimens.
Make pre-op calls to patient to obtain preliminary information
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High school diploma or GED.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
One year of experience in a hospital setting.
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMT).
