This role focuses on providing medical and clinical support services to patients. In addition, this role focuses on performing the following Surgical Services duties: Responsible for medical services involving the excision or incision of a patient's body, such as interventional pain management and other procedures. This position also works to provide a safe environment for patients undergoing invasive procedures or surgery. A clinical technologist role that has specialized knowledge or skills gained through a combination of vocational education, training, and experience. This role will be most commonly applied to patient care and/or scientific/laboratory jobs. An entry-level role typically requiring little to no prior knowledge or experience and requiring vocational or technical education. Work is routine or follows standard procedures, is closely supervised, and communicates information that requires little explanation or interpretation.

This position is responsible for assisting with endoscopic procedures under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Also responsible for equipment and supply maintenance.
Job Description
Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
One (1) year of operating room experience.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not intended to be an all-inclusive list. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
1. Properly reprocess endoscopes according to Infection control and hospital guidelines.
2. Ensures equipment is in working order.
3. Keeps accurate documentation for cleaning/testing of equipment and supplies.
4. Cleans endoscopy procedure rooms after use and prepares for next procedure.
5. Operates and handles equipment properly during Endoscopic procedures.
6. Properly collects, handles, labels, and transports specimens according to policy.
7. Informs Clinical leader of any equipment problems.
8. Performs as an assistant during endoscopic procedures.
9. Escorts patients into the Procedure rooms and obtains baseline vital signs and connects patient to monitoring equipment.
10. Reports all unusual observations or reactions of the patient to the nurse assigned to the patient or charge nurse.
11. Adheres to all infection control policies and procedures including hand hygiene, isolation protocol, and cleaning of patient care devices and equipment.
12. Turns over procedure rooms in a timely manner.
13. Sets up daily procedure rooms with established Endoscopy protocols and physician preferences.
14. Circulates regularly throughout unit to assist nurses and physicians as needed in pre, intra and post procedure.
15. Under the review of the RN obtains pre-procedure data, including but not limited to; height, weight, allergies, NPO status, post-procedure ride contact and call back number.
16. Restocks Endoscopy rooms and checking and cleaning equipment on a daily basis.
Physical Requirements:
1. Occasional lifting of 30-35 lbs and turning patients.
2. Prolonged standing and walking. Occasional twisting, bending, reaching, pushing/pulling, sitting, kneeling, and squatting.
3. Exposure to infectious disease and possible carcinogenic chemicals. Exposure of bloodborne pathogens.
4. Manual Dexterity Requires manual dexterity using fine hand manipulations for assisting in endoscopic procedures and computer keyboard.
5. Audible/Visual Demands: Requires ability to see computer screen, reports, and perform assistance in endoscopic procedures with accuracy.
6. Ability to hear instructions from physician and nursing staff.
Skills & Abilities:
1. Demonstrates a detailed knowledge of the different types of scopes and their use.
2. Demonstrates and verbalizes knowledge of aseptic technique.
3. Good interpersonal and organizational skills.
4. Ability to work with detailed and confidential information.
