Endoscopy Technician - Endoscopy Suite - Full Time

Position Summary: 

Provides high quality care to assigned patients in accordance with nursing standards of care and practice under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.  Maintains collaborative relationships with other nursing staff members, physicians and ancillary staff to provide this care.  Assists in providing care to patients of all age groups in the Robert Packer Hospital Endoscopy Suite and age 18 or older in the Guthrie Endoscopy Center.  Cleans and maintains endoscopes and equipment; provides technical assistance to the physician during diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopies.  Maintains an appropriate level of knowledge and clinical skill through continuing education, in‐services and self‐study activities. 

Education, License & Cert: 

High school diploma or GED is required. 10+ years of experience as an Endo Tech will be considered in lieu of education.

Experience: Previous patient care experience and/or Endoscopy experience preferred but not required. 

Essential Functions: 

1. Demonstrates respect, consideration and a non‐judgmental attitude for patients.  Maintains patient confidentiality.  Prioritizes tasks, so that patient is always main focus. 

2. Works under the direction of a Registered Nurse in assisting with patient care, e.g. cleans stretchers, assists patients with dressing/undressing, offers drinks post‐procedure, takes vital signs; makes patient safety a first priority; seeks assistance when performing an unfamiliar task; assists the RN with the nursing process by reporting observed changes in patient’s appearance, vital signs, etc. to the nurse; recognizes an emergency situation and initiates proper action. Discontinues IV catheters in accordance with  Endoscopy Center standards. 

3. As assigned: Independently cares for and maintains endoscopes.  Understands basic anatomy of all endoscopes used; utilizes and maintains Endoscopy equipment and surgical supplies and instruments in accordance with manufacturers’ recommendations and department guidelines, providing routine and regular examination of endoscopes, troubleshooting, and submitting for repair as needed. Maintains accurate and complete records of equipment utilized during Endoscopy procedures. Understands rationale for and utilizes industry standards to preclean, gross clean, high level disinfect and sterilize equipment; Uses the principles of hand washing to prevent disease transmission and infection. 

4. Works either in RPH Endoscopy Center or hospital Suite as assigned, uses downtime to seek to help other areas, e.g., care of endoscopes, assist with prep/recovery care of patients, assist with procedures, assist with patient discharges, stock supplies, disinfect and make up clean stretchers, empty laundry bags etc. 

5. Under the direct supervision of the physician, after proper education and training, may assist the physician with various procedures including manipulation of the following as directed:   

Polypectomy snares, biopsy forceps and other accessory equipment to, e.g., snare polyps and/or foreign objects, obtain biopsies.  Patient’s abdomen by supporting/lifting/applying pressure.
