Your work environment at EXP


In this role, you will be a part of the Energy & Sustainability team, of the buildings sector, based in Markham, Ontario office and have the opportunity to work on the energy, sustainability and commissioning projects in Canada. 


What a day at EXP has in store for you

Modeling building architecture and engineered Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing systems in selected Energy Modeling Software (technical knowledge of both simple and complex system modeling knowledge required). Conducting ASHRAE Energy audits and analyzing Energy and Water Conservation Measures for feasibility studies and to inform design decisions for buildings and sites. Conducting utility analysis to determine utility rates, and regression analysis to understand energy consumption history in relation to cooling/heating degree days. Authoring narratives and reports for clients outlining measures to improve energy and water efficiencies for projects. Reviewing Architectural, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Civil and Landscape drawings, and BAS sequence of operation/screen shots to understand building system details. Full documentation of the energy model for building permit applications, CaGBC Zero Carbon Building Standard, LEED Energy and Atmosphere Minimum Energy Performance prerequisite and Optimize Energy Performance Credit. Determining renewable energy system sizing based on results from the energy model.  Occasionally review of energy models developed by external parties as part of compliance review on P3 projects. Undertake commissioning or retro-commissioning projects and lead/support performance testing, writing field reports, developing commissioning plans and checklists. Support construction administration activities when required, including conducting field reviews and writing deficiency reports.

What your experience looks like

5+ years previous experience in energy auditing, energy modelling, commissioning and/or sustainability consulting. Knowledge of building system operations, sequences and building automation system (BAS). Knowledge of RETScreen Expert and energy modeling software, including, at minimum, IES Virtual Environment (5 + years), and eQuest. Experience with developing energy savings calculations and methods, outside of energy model and software, are considered an asset. P.Eng is preferred. CEM (Certified Energy Manager), CMVP (Certified Measurement and Verification Professional), CBCP (Certified Building Commissioning Professional), and/or LEED BD+C are assets.
