The Energy Forecast Analyst II role provides hydro model expertise and analysis supporting and enhancing the operational performance of NYPA’s Energy Portfolio Modeling & Forecasting team. This position requires working with NYPA’s Engineering department to enhance the accuracy of Hydro flow and internal generation models, with specific focus on the revenue forecasts for the Niagara and St. Lawrence projects that are used for financial planning purposes. Relevant hydro data such as monthly precipitation, water levels, outflows, and analysis of the various Great Lakes basin supply will need to be stored and evaluated to ensure model results consistent with current conditions. The hydro forecasts, and their accuracy, will be tracked and presented to executive management.
In addition, the Energy Forecast Analyst II will help support the Energy Commodity Risk Management System (ECRM) used for valuing NYPA’s assets, trade capture, risk, and settlement functions. The analytics associated with these tasks will support strategic business decisions around the asset portfolio and revenue preservation. Overseeing the day-to-day operation of the ECRM includes analysis of routine daily/weekly studies, adhoc evaluations of new products and configurations, working in concert with NYPA IT/contracted vendors, troubleshooting, prepping and implementing annual updates and new model assumptions, etc.
Candidates for this role should possess insightful research capabilities, strong technological skills (experience with MS Office, PowerPoint, Excel, and Power BI with knowledge of Python programming a plus), and communication/presentation skills. In addition, the position is responsible for consistent reporting, monitoring performance and managing special projects that will enable the Energy Portfolio Management team to better align with NYPA’s VISION 2030 and business objectives. #LI-VB1

Ability to propose strategies to react to a changing marketplace Preferred experience of SAP, Allegro, Ascend, Tableau, Power BI & GE-MAPS Preferred experience in database programming and querying using SQL, MS Access, VBA, SAS, Oracle or other. Education, Experience and Certifications Bachelor's degree in Business Analytics, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics or related discipline required. Minimum of 4 years of related experience in an analytical role or equivalent combinations of education & experience. Utility or Energy Company experience preferred
