Energy Manager - Optimization

Position Description

Optimization-focused Energy Manager for KM’s Product Pipeline’s Operations Optimization workgroup.  The Operations Optimization workgroup manages the procurement and efficient use of electricity and natural gas consumption for the business unit.  

Essential duties and responsibilities : 

Implement Kinder Morgan’s strategy in the assigned energy markets through participation in regulatory and stakeholder processes, trade groups, and utility rate cases.Develop an understanding of the electric markets, energy trends, and rate structures within the assigned regions and their impacts on electrical costs and ESG metrics.Monitor and influence operational energy consumption to optimize energy expenditures.Develop fuel and power expense models and annual budgets.Assist in budget variance analysis and re-forecasting as required.Develop and implement “what if” scenario tools and special studies comparing alternative supply tariffs /contracts, pumping unit setups, pipeline scheduling variations, curtailment programs, etc.Manage utility relationships with key energy vendors to maintain emergency contact information, evaluate alternative tariffs, explore energy efficiency opportunities and incentives, address unplanned and coordinate planned supply interruptions, start and stop service, and maintain vendor-owned hardware.Prepare and implement energy efficiency projects and incentive rebate applications with vendors and state agencies.

Position Requirements

Education:

Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in business, finance, engineering, economics, math, or other similar disciplines. Work experience in the energy industry, electric utility, or pipeline operations is a plus.

Experience / Specific Knowledge:

Proficiency with Microsoft applications, including but not limited to Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.Experience in the electric power sector, including market analysis and forecastingExperience with a minimum of one of the following: ERCOT, PJM, ISO-NE, MISO, SPP, CAISO, WECC, and SERCRepresent the Company in energy topics with Regulators, Counterparties, Utilities, and System OperatorsProvide regulatory advice to staff related to market rules, compliance, and market design changes

Working Conditions/Considerations:

Office based at Houston Headquarters in downtown Houston, TXThis position is eligible for a Hybrid work schedule.Overtime and extended work hours may be required including, but not limited to, emergencies.Some travel (<10%) may be required, including overnight stays for several days.Must carry a cell phone.Level of position will be based on education and experienceThe successful candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen and a complete background check after an offer has been extended and before being employed.
