Position Description
The Energy Projects Manager - AS Manager supports the Division of Sustainability’s goal to increase energy and water efficiency and decrease waste and greenhouse gas emissions across Metro Government operations. As part of a small, collaborative team, this position designs and implements strategies that measurably advance this goal.
This position oversees departmental implementation of and municipal-wide reporting on Metro’s Green Building Standards (Metro Code 2.32.070), which mandate energy efficiency improvements in existing city buildings and LEED Zero certification across a portion of the portfolio. The role manages Metro’s Energy Savings Revolving Fund (ESRF), which implements strategic, high-ROI energy conservation measures in municipal facilities.
This position will coordinate with General Services divisions, other Metro departments, and contracted vendors towards achieving the goals of Metro Code 2.32.070 and advancing other city energy goals and projects. Responsibilities include project management, vendor management, data collection and analysis, and reporting.
The candidate must be a motivated and dynamic professional with excellent decision-making and interpersonal skills and the ability to independently manage concurrent projects. Flexibility, positivity, reliability, and a commitment to excellence are required.
**This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule that may include remote work.**
Typical Duties
+ Oversees departmental implementation of and Metro-wide reporting on Metro’s Green Building Standards (Metro Code 2.32.070).
+ Manages vendors performing energy efficiency work in municipal facilities, including ensuring quality control and budgetary compliance.
+ Establishes strong lines of communication with other Metro departments to collect data, share best practices, and support progress toward meeting Metro Code 2.32.070.
+ Develops strategy for deploying limited capital dollars to greatest-impact energy conservation projects. Works closely with General Services’ Operations and Maintenance team to ensure feasibility and ongoing maintenance.
+ Advises General Services’ Design and Construction team on energy efficiency strategies for new buildings and major renovations.
+ Contributes to departmental lighting and HVAC design standards.
+ Collaborates closely with General Services’ energy team to coordinate energy efficiency and renewable energy projects and strategies.
+ Maintains databases and other records in support of day-to-day operations related to building energy use and efficiency.
+ Provides on-demand snapshots of progress towards goals in user-friendly formats.
+ Works with General Services’ grants manager to apply for and deploy funds for energy efficiency.
+ Researches and stays abreast of industry best practices, policies, and technologies that may impact progress towards Metro’s energy goals.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree in any technical field, including but not limited to: Engineering, Environmental Science, Data Science, or related field and five (5) years of professional experience in a sustainability-related field. **Substitution will be considered**
Candidate must pass a Metro Nashville Police Department background check.

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
+ One or more of the following:
+ LEED accreditation (any level)
+ Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
+ Building Energy Assessment Professional (BEAP) certification
+ Certified Decarbonization Professional (CDP) certification
+ Certified Energy Manager (CEM)
+ Demonstrated experience in data collection, analysis, and reporting with a high regard for quality control
+ Demonstrated experience in energy project management including, planning, executing, monitoring, and closing projects
+ Experience with energy efficiency in buildings
