Job Description
Work closely with Engineers in the Pontiac Propulsion Labs on calibration development, mechanical experiments, fabrication, and manual test points. The role involves getting the engine to 60% calibrated, then sending it to Engine Validation for testing and ultimately to a failure state. Tasks include mechanical swapping of engine components and working hand in hand with engineers to test different engine combinations for optimum performance. The role also involves work at the component level including oil pumps, head or cam changes, fuel injectors, and spark plugs, and assembly/modification and/or fabrication to existing engines to prep for testing.
ResponsibilitiesCollaborate with engineers on calibration development and mechanical experiments.Perform mechanical swapping of engine components to test different combinations for optimum performance.Work at the component level, including oil pumps, head or cam changes, fuel injectors, and spark plugs.Assemble, modify, and/or fabricate existing engines to prepare them for testing.Fabricate components on engines and test stands/dynos for testing.Handle instrumentation between the engine and the dyno.TIG weld parts and components.Essential SkillsAssociates degree3-5 years of experience with Engine DynamometerHands-on experience with engine rebuild/tear down/assembly/repair, prototype work, hand tools, fabrication, assembly, and troubleshootingWelding and fabrication skillsExperience with engine tuning using HP Tuners or similar programsExperience with AVL/PUMA and emissions equipmentAdditional Skills & QualificationsLab experience with testing and development, dyno equipment, and emissions testingCalibration experience from either lab work or personal projects using standalone fueling systems or working on race teams/shopsWork Environment
The work is conducted in a very clean test lab/garage environment within the engineering headquarters. The facility includes a full-service cafeteria open from 6am to 2:30pm and is air-conditioned. Technicians need to have their own basic tools, although the employer will provide a toolbox and any unique or specialty tools. The large facility offers plenty of parking, though employees may have to walk up to a quarter mile to enter the building.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $24.00 - $32.00
