Job Title: Engine Development Technician
Job Description
As an Engine Development Technician, you will work with Engineers in the Pontiac Propulsion Labs to assist in the calibration development, mechanical experiments, fabrication, and manual test points. Your role will involve getting engines to 60% calibrated before sending them to Engine Validation for testing and ultimately taking them to a failure state. This position is for the 3rd shift.
Responsibilities
+ Collaborate with engineers to test different combinations of engine components for optimum performance.
+ Perform mechanical swapping of engine components such as oil pumps, head or cam changes, fuel injectors, and spark plugs.
+ Assemble, modify, and fabricate existing engines to prepare them for testing.
+ Fabricate components on engine and test stands/dynos for testing purposes.
+ Instrument engines and dynos for testing.
+ TIG weld parts and components as needed.
Essential Skills
+ Associates degree
+ 3-5 years of hands-on experience with engine dynamometers
+ Experience with engine rebuild/tear down, assembly, repair, prototype work, hand tools, fabrication, assembly, and troubleshooting
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience with laboratory AVL/PUMA and emissions equipment
+ Experience with engine tuning and calibration using software such as HP Tuners or standalone systems
+ Strong mechanical background , preferably with experience modifying or building aftermarket vehicles
+ Ability to run and operate manual testing on a dyno
+ Lab experience revolving around testing and development, dyno equipment, and emissions testing
+ Calibration experience from personal or professional time, such as working on a race team/shop
Work Environment
The work environment includes a clean test lab/garage within an engineering headquarters. The facility is air-conditioned and features a full-service cafeteria open from 6am to 2:30pm. The large facility has plenty of parking, but you may need to walk up to 1/4 mile to get into the building. Technicians will need to have their own basic tools, while unique or specialty tools and toolboxes will be provided by the employer. The 3rd shift hours are Sunday night through Thursday night/morning, from 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM or 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $35.00/hr.
