Facility Overview:

The Suffield, CT facility, which opened in 1965, manufactures and distributes ice cream and frozen desert products throughout New England, New York, and regional points along the East Coast.

 

Position Overview:

Responsible for the working knowledge, basic troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of all equipment associated with facility infrastructure including ammonia refrigeration, steam, air, wastewater pretreatment, exterior grounds, building, plumbing, electrical systems, etc.

 

Job Responsibilities:

Properly repair and maintain all equipment associated with facility infrastructure including ammonia refrigeration, steam, air, wastewater pretreatment, exterior grounds, building, plumbing, electrical systems, etc.. in a timely manner with minimal supervision; Perform preventative maintenance on facility infrastructure equipment including oil and filter replacement, freezer defrosts, instrumentation, chemical pumps, etc. ; Perform general maintenance duties as it relates to facility infrastructure equipment and building, including ground maintenance, painting, snow removal, etc. Properly perform mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, welding, and plumbing duties as required; Rebuild/replace/maintain equipment as needed, including but not limited to pumps, gear boxes, bearings, bushings, belts, compressors, seals, etc. Possess a working comprehension of all facility infrastructure equipment; Complete assigned work orders, including daily rounds, by their required due dates; Complete assigned housekeeping duties as required; Communicate to Maintenance Manager or Plant Manager of any condition that is outside normal operating parameters; Work in a safe manner, in compliance with Company, State and Federal GMP’s, SOP’s and company Policy and Procedures; Ability to work overtime, including weekends, holidays, and emergencies,  as needed; Possess own tools necessary to perform the requirements of the position; Work effectively as part of a team and display a positive attitude; Obtain Hazmat Technician certification and work as a member of the local Hazmat Team; Other duties as assigned.

 

Safety Responsibilities:

Safety is vitally important not only at our facility but also from a personal standpoint.  Employees are responsible for understanding and following all safety procedures.  Likewise, food safety is a key performance indicator.  Understanding this, GMP and housekeeping procedures are to be followed as part of any job at our facility.

 

 

SQF Requirements/Responsibilities:

Support SQF by maintaining food safety and food quality through completing job tasks and maintaining the work area in a sanitary manner. Report food safety problems to personnel with authority to initiate action.

 

Education and Experience:

Trade School Diploma or equivalent experience. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and ability in industrial maintenance activities such as hydraulics, pneumatics, plumbing, electrical, mechanical and general manufacturing maintenance; Basic math and reading skills; Ability to work independently or in a group/team atmosphere; Good organizational and time management skills.

 

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs Ability to withstand varying temperatures ranging anywhere from 130°F to -30°F for varied periods of time Standing: Long periods of time. (4 - 6 hours) Sitting: Infrequently. Walking: Occasionally for short periods. Climbing: Frequently Bending: Frequently. Twisting of Spine: Occasionally. Twisting of wrists: Frequently. Lifting: Light (< 30 lbs frequently, > 30 lbs occasionally). Carrying: Light (30-50 lbs) frequently, distance 30 yards. Pushing/Pulling: Under 75 lbs without assistance frequently. Pushing/Pulling: Over 75 lbs with assistance occasionally. Ability to withstand varying temperatures ranging anywhere from 100°F to -40°F for varied periods of time.
