About The Team
The Financial Systems and Automation Technology teams at CarMax are responsible for the overall strategy, delivery and performance of robotic process automation technologies and other automated solutions across the organization. Our goal is to deliver transformative solutions with a focus on innovation, continuous improvement and driving efficiency as a part of CarMax’s back-office intelligent automation service model.
Purpose of the role:
As an Engineer II, you will work closely with business, product and technology teams to develop/configure and implement automation solutions and support the overall automation lifecycle.
What you will do – Essential Responsibilities:
Configuring and developing intermediate/advanced robotic process automations and objects using workflow principles in accordance with RPA industry standards.
Leveraging technical expertise to support automation opportunity identification activities, and deliver on the full software development lifecycle to include, but not limited to, building business/technical requirements; supporting business and technology teams in developing integration/user acceptance/end-to-end test strategy and execution; building deployment plans, creating release documentation and stabilization planning.
Mining and analyzing business processes and data to understand current state and provide high level analysis, value add recommendations and technical solutions to the Automation Technology Center of Excellence (COE) and business partners.
Working closely with process engineers, business teams/leaders and technology partners to ensure technical, business, quality, security, and compliance requirements are validated and are in accordance with CarMax’s best practices and standards.
Assisting the operational support control room lead with rotations in automation job monitoring and incident management, change requirements implementation and providing timely responses and solutions as required.
Lead, mentor, develop and train functional teams and less experienced team members using technical expertise, best practices and industry standards for robotic process automation development, the automation lifecycle and other intelligent automation solutions.
Participate in project planning activities to include sizing, sprints and retrospectives.
Supporting special projects as assigned by Senior members of the team and performing other duties as assigned.
Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation as scheduled (typically once every 6 weeks) and perform after hours support as needed.
Technical Qualifications / Requirements
Minimum of 3+ years of relevant experience, including 3+ years of successful delivery and/or support of robotic process automation technologies, VBA/.Net/SQL scripts, or other automation technology solutions
Bachelor’s Degree preferred or equivalent work experience.
Blue Prism, UI Path or other robotic process automation technology experience required
Experience with object-based coding, macros and programming languages such as Microsoft SQL, Server SQL IUD statements, stored procedure techniques (SSIS), Python, Java, VBA and/or .Net and APIs required
Experience with web technology basic development experience utilizing HTML/CSS, Javascript, XML preferred
Experience with Microsoft (Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and Microsoft Azure required
Familiarity with intelligent automation solutions such as Power Platform, intelligent document processing and data analytics/visualization tools such as Alteryx
Knowledge of project management methodology (agile or waterfall) and the systems software development lifecycle
Excellent analytical, problem-solving skills with the ability to think logically and conduct root cause analysis
Ability to manage multiple tasks and/or projects simultaneously to deliver on tight timeframes, adapt to changing priorities and drive to achieve team goals independently
Ability to work independently to resolve discrepancies, defects, and issues with the understanding of system and business impact and when to escalate/partner respectively
Ability to consider long- and short-term impact of decisions

Other Preferred Skills / Experience
Education preference: 4 year degree in IT related course of study
Accounting / Finance business process, systems and toolsets
Proficient in database creation and macros in Microsoft Access
Windows scripting and process execution
Linux familiarity (navigation, process execution, scripting)
Web Services, WCF and/or ASP.NET (Web API)
Microsoft Azure familiarity
Work Location and Arrangement: This role will be based out of the Richmond, VA Technology Innovation Center or Dallas Tech Hub in Plano, TX and have a Hybrid work arrangement.
Work Authorization: Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
