Engineer, Principal
We are looking for an Engineer, Principal, to join our Lansing, NY team!
As our Principal Engineer, you will work closely with all departments across the IMR Test Lab facilities. You will be the lead technician for all data structures and existing processes; sit on all high-level engineering meetings and act as a resource for all our engineers.
As a Principal Engineer, you will perform a variety of moderately complex to complex software and/or hardware engineering activities of an analysis, design, or test nature.
You will participate on project teams and provide guidance to less experienced engineers and technical staff. You will plan, conduct, and may supervise research, development or installation of products and systems in conformance with engineering design and customer specification. Engineering activities support both domestic and international products/services.
Location: Lansing, NY
Salary: $120,000 - $140,000

Your Challenge
Technical Oversight
Ensure test methodologies in engineering-related proposals meet customer, standards, and accreditation requirementsAssist engineering staff with technical questions, including editing technical reports prior to customer release if requiredProject Management
Review technically challenging customer requests (e.g., scope, risks, fit for lab capabilities, schedule, and opportunities for further business) and provide input during the proposal and quoting process.Full project management - follow up on projects, key programs, and areas of concern to ensure that testing is proceeding correctly, on time, and on budget. Provide guidance when course corrections are necessary.Observe operational performance metrics and identify areas that might indicate weaknesses that need to be addressed proactively from an engineering perspective (safety, quality, turn-around time / on time delivery, customer feedback). Develop and execute mitigation plans as needed.Engineering Mentorship
Manage the formal internal Professional Development Program / Engineering Mentorship Program. Ensure that regular meetings are held with the participants.Organize and maintain a regular annual training schedule for hard skills and “soft” business skills that engineers will need to develop to enhance their careers.Internal and External Relations
Representing IMR Test Labs/ Analytical Services to internal and external stakeholders, including customersParticipate in business development activities, especially related to new services being considered. Provide guidance on technical considerations and evaluate feasibility and maintainability of new tests and equipment being considered.What You Bring
Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in engineering; metallurgy preferred or a Bachelor’s Degree with 15+ years of experience8-10 years’ experience in materials testing, project management, and engineering mentorshipExcellent communication skills including ability to create technical reports, and present to senior managementExpertise in C#Familiarity with data collection toolsWho We Are
