Engineer, Principal - (Planning - Special Studies)

**JOB SUMMARY**
Establishes and manages Electromagnetic Transients (EMT) model validation and EMT analysis processes to identify and investigate potential EMT performance concerns on the transmission system. Supports business objectives by identifying system performance concerns and planning capital projects to mitigate those concerns and by providing technical expertise to the rest of the company.
**ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**
+ Utilizes various power system analysis tools to study expected transmission system performance with emphasis on electromagnetic transients (EMT) analysis.
+ Performs transient analysis for new generator interconnection requests to identify and mitigate performance concerns.
+ Performs transient analysis of existing transmission system and planned system capital expansion projects.
+ Serves as the primary point of contact for outsourced EMT studies and managing the RFP (Request for Proposal) process, including the preparation and submission of RFPs, coordinating with consultants, and providing expert guidance throughout the project lifecycle to ensure successful outcomes.
+ Provides technical support to groups internal and external to the company and serves as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to peers and leadership for both technical and process-related topics.
+ Coaches, mentors, and trains staff on job functions to increase professional knowledge and develop skills for others in the department.
+ Attends meetings and training sessions to increase professional knowledge and skills.
+ Participates and has membership in industry forums and committees, stays educated on present and future technical standards, industry trends, etc., and deliberately shares knowledge and experiences with peers in formal and informal settings.
+ Generates written reports on various facets of transmission system's condition and performance.
+ Develops presentations and present study results to both internal and external audiences.
**REQUIREMENTS**
+ Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or relevant, equivalent experience and/or education. Master’s degree preferred.
+ Knowledge of electric utility system operations, planning, protection, design, construction and/or maintenance functions preferred.
+ Minimum Experience: Ten (10) years of industry-related experience. Transmission planning experience preferred.
+ Ability to utilize PSCAD and/or EMTP-RV power system analysis software. EMT simulation experience required.
+ Must have advanced engineering skills and be able to work under minimal supervision given high level work direction while appropriately keeping others informed of activities and issues or potential issues.
+ Possess sound analytical problem-solving and documentation skills.
+ Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with superiors and individuals inside and outside the company.
+ Effectively leads teams, appropriately challenges and otherwise plays a key role in direction-setting and decision-making while cultivating a work environment conducive to collaboration.
+ Ability to multi-task and manage time effectively.
+ Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
+ Some travel required.
