T he City of Durham requires employees to confirm their vaccination status with Human Resources. If you confirm your status before 10/17/2021 you may be eligible to receive a $250 incentive.
Employees who have not confirmed that they are fully-vaccinated by 10/17/2021will be required to submit for routine and ongoing COVID testing, which will start sometime between October 25th and November 8th. Refusal to comply with the weekly testing will result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.
Employees that are not fully-vaccinated for the COVID virus by December 31, 2021 and re ported their status to Human Resources, will pay a $70 surcharge each month for their benefits in the next benefits election cycle as well as any cost associated with failure to meet wellness requirements.

Devoted to providing engineering support, inspection and professional civil engineering for a variety of public works, utilities, storm water, and transportation facilities/projects as well as review of public and private development projects. Perform journey-level engineering work requiring independent evaluation and analysis of issues and the exercise of judgment, education and experience to select and apply criteria to resolve problems and make recommendations. Decision-making includes selecting the method to address a problem or issue, subject to the constraints established by management objectives and direction. Incumbents provide technical engineering services for civil engineering projects, transportation systems/facilities, or serve as construction project managers for a large project or Citywide strategic initiative.
To provide paraprofessional engineering support, permitting, and inspection for the Right of Way Management Group within Public Works for a variety of public works, utilities, storm water, and transportation facilities/projects as well as review of public and private development projects mainly including the permitting and inspecting of private utility infrastructure (electric, gas, telecommunications, etc.) development within the City maintained Right of Way, including: a) providing technical engineering services for civil engineering projects; b) providing support for schedule and budget management; c) reviewing project documents, plans and data; d) preparing technical presentations, reports, plans and correspondence; e) reviewing permit applications for infrastructure improvements; f) drafting agreements and ordinances; g) responding to citizen questions; h) facilitating coordination between utility owner representatives; i) coordinating projects with stakeholders and/or regulatory agencies.
Duties/Responsibilities
+ Responsible for the preparation of professional civil engineering work performed in the planning, review, inspection, field supervision, and maintenance of multiple types of municipal engineering projects and systems.
+ Assists in the preparation of complex professional civil engineering work.
+ Develops advanced level engineering skill sets.
+ Oversees data analysis by obtaining electronic data; reviewing raw data for accuracy; analyzing data for trends; and developing written reports.
+ Attends meetings on all types of engineering systems and interacts with internal and external customers to provide assistance as needed.
+ Provides technical support to supervising professional; responding to and investigating questions or concerns; and preparing and sending technical correspondence.
+ Completes special projects by preparing presentations; participating in seminars; and updating standards & procedures.
Specific duties for the Right of Way Management Group
+ Liaise between residents and utility companies to coordinate damage repair, claims, and site restoration when resident property is affected.
+ Oversee all private utility work in the downtown area.
+ Troubleshoot city-wide issues caused by private utility development.
+ Coordinate as-built drawing entry into City GIS.
+ Maintain the library of performance securities for private utility companies.
+ Assist with the preparation of telecommunication licenses and license agreements.
+ Assist with reports for City Council, City Management, and budget.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
+ Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction project management, or a directly related field or equivalent.
+ Five years of related engineering and/or project management experience.
+ Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License.
Additional Preferred Skills
+ North Carolina Engineer in Training (EIT) Registration preferred.
