Job Title: Test Engineer

Salary/Grade: £39,423 - £45,000 per annum (depending on experience)

Location: Larne (Compressed four day working week)

Benefits: 

25 days annual leave plus bank holidays

Up to 10% bonus

Contributory pension scheme - Caterpillar will double the employee's contribution up to 6%

The opportunity

As a Test Engineer, you will primarily carry out the testing of mechanical and electrical engineering systems for release to production in a manner to ensure products provide superior performance, best cost, durability, quality, and serviceability. You will perform various forms of container testing and will host Customer Witness Tests.

The role will involve working closely with multiple departments within Caterpillar, such as Operations and Project Management. You will be expected to complete projects with limited supervision, to an agreed timeline to help the organization meet customer expectations and specifications.

What you will do:

Testing of Genset packages built at the facility in Larne. Testing includes: - Cold Testing, Hot Testing and Customer Witness Testing.

Leading and contributing to customer witness tests associated with Genset packages built in Larne and the Power Solutions Network.

Monitor results, and document results of each test.

Resolve issues regarding the design or manufacturing of genset packages and ensure design acceptance and manufacturing readiness.

Participate in the adoption of new technologies and processes to achieve greater efficiency, cost reduction and quality improvement.

Plan and improve testing procedures and operations to make the tests more reliable, efficient and cost-effective.

What you have:

Product Testing - Level Working Knowledge:

Documenting of test process and results.

Testing of genset packages for compliance to applicable international standards and design intent.

Discusses and compares usability and safety.

Help develop and refine product-testing procedures; participates in selecting testing tools.

Troubleshooting Technical Problems - Level Working Knowledge:

Documents common hardware, software and communications problems and likely resolutions.

Troubleshoots typical technical problems in the build or design of Genset packages engineered within Global Solutions Engineering

Work with specific vendors on the discover of application problems/issues. Try to resolve these problems/issues in the most efficient way.

Adheres to standard troubleshooting procedures to ensure effectiveness of resolutions.

Effective Communications - Level Working Knowledge:

Delivers helpful feedback that focuses on behaviours without offending the recipient.

Listens to feedback without defensiveness and uses it for own communication effectiveness.

Makes oral presentations and writes reports needed for own work.

Technical Excellence - Level Working Knowledge:

Requires High Voltage Authorised Persons qualification.

Effective working knowledge of all genset package controls examples of these would be Cat EMCP, Easygen, Comap.  

Helping others solve technical problems or issues with the design or manufacture of the genset package

Education:

Requires a degree or relevant experience working in a Test environment.
