Overview
As a Design Engineer in RIE’s Electric Distribution Design Department, reporting to the Design Manager, you are the main liaison to the contracted Design firms for which we have a Master Service Agreement (MSA). You will work Planning Engineering and customer groups to understand the design needs of both our internally and externally needed projects. After scoping all details and delivering the projects to our external Design consultants, you continue to be their single point of contact to ensure delivery and review of proper designs in our current systems. We currently utilize the AUD system for Design which is linked to our EAM Work Management System. The main output of the design is both construction prints and Compatible Units (CU) which define all material and labor needs that adherence to RIE Construction Standards. This position will be filled at the Engineer I, II, III or Principal level based on the candidate's education and experience. #RIE #INDRIE
Responsibilities
+ Work with contracted designers within terms and conditions of our MSA to provide design services
+ Develop and administer Project Document scopes for the MSA designs
+ Provide specific technical support to all external design firms with regard to design related issues
+ Must have specific design and construction knowledge of overhead, underground, URD, DOT, and telecommunications work
+ Must have working knowledge of both utility design and work management applications
+ Develop strategic alliances with multiple Design and Construction vendors and support these initiatives by leveraging new technologies, applications, and work practices
+ Work closely with the Distribution Design /Operations Support groups to identify long-term design and construction requirements
+ Represent the External Distribution Design Department at various planning and scheduling meetings both internally and externally
+ Attend Design and Construction bid meetings as required
+ Develop and implement innovative business solutions that increase efficiency and productivity
+ Be available during storm events and have a regular emergency role
Qualifications

+ Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering with a proven ability to exercise good Project Management skills.
+ Engineer I: 0-2 years of Transmission and/or Distribution Engineering or Operations experience with particular knowledge of design, procurement, contract, and performance strategies.
+ Engineer II: 2-5 years Transmission and/or Distribution Engineering or Operations experience with particular knowledge of design, procurement, contract, and performance strategies.
+ Engineer III: 5-10 years Transmission and/or Distribution Engineering or Operations experience with particular knowledge of design, procurement, contract, and performance strategies.
+ Principal Engineer: 10+ Transmission and/or Distribution Engineering or Operations experience with particular knowledge of design, procurement, contract, and performance strategies.
+ Demonstrate proficient computer skills in systems like; MS Office applications, MS Project, utility GIS, Design & WMSs
+ Exhibit sound strategic thinking capabilities and creative problem solving abilities.
+ Well developed communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
+ Ability to read, write, and comprehend construction documents and conceptual designs.
+ Ability to travel as required to various locations throughout RI with a Valid driver's license

Remote Work
