Purpose of Position

Researches, develops, analyzes and documents display system designs necessary for the support of optical and mechanical elements of the visual system product inclusive of display systems, display management, image generation, and legacy product / customer support.

Tasks and Responsibilities Creates conceptual and detail 3-D mechanical/optical designs and completes associated detailed drawings and documentation. A high degree of creativity and latitude is required to accomplish this job. These activities involve working directly with potential customer personnel at mid and senior engineering levels to develop product solutions that meet or exceed technical requirements. Analyzes project requirements and provides estimates of design effort to management. Assist Marketing department in conceptual development of visual solutions for inclusion in proposals to meet the requirements of the customer’s Request for Proposal (RFP) Assist in prototype assembly and testing of visual simulation products. Analyzes designs/components using scientific methods and computer tools to predict performance against stated requirements including basic structural analysis. Provides technical liaison assistance to internal and external suppliers and customers. Includes support for product prototyping, fabrication, test, production build, integration and field installations. Travels to customer sites in support of site surveys, design reviews and field installations to provide on-site technical direction. Consults with other engineering staff to evaluate hardware/software and mechanical/electrical interfaces ensuring operational performance of overall system. Provides status of assignments through documented methods, noting progress and technical/schedule risks associated with projects. Minimum Education Bachelor's degree in Engineering Physics, Physics, Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related scientific/technical field. Minimum Experience 2 years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a strong working knowledge of MATLAB (or similar), 3D CAD solid modeling design software, preferably SolidWorks; solid modeling electronic configuration control management software (CDM / PDM) required; and knowledge of typical Microsoft Office suite of software. Working knowledge of Desired – SW application tool development (C#, C++, etc.), Linux OS Ability to efficiently apply advanced engineering mathematical concepts applicable to optical calculations as relates to visual performance and optical efficacy; luminance, resolution, contrast, transmittance, reflectance, scattering, etc. Able to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to conceptualize spatially in 3 dimensions. Ability to recognize and define problems and propose workable solutions. Ability to collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to integrate requirements related to technical, cost and schedule. Physical Demands and Work Environment

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
