Purpose

To manage/supervise the day-to-day operations of the Electrical Extra High Voltage Switchgears /Transformers (33kV/6.6kV) 6.6kV Motors, Power Factor Correctors, Fire Suppression Systems, HVAC and Power Generation Systems and Resources in the Smelter Plant to maximize efficient and safe production at the Kansanshi Mining Plc.

• Inspect, plan and implement predictive maintenance programs and improvements for Extra High Voltage Switchgear/Transformers/Motors, PFC’s and Substation protection.

• Evaluate the daily preventive maintenance program and/or activities and coordinate with operation for any improvements.

• Conduct failure analysis on EHT Switchgears/Transformers/Motors/Generators to eliminate if not to avoid repetition of the same in the future for continuous optimization of company’s assets.

• Determine the critical spare parts for the equipment under him and monitors the stock inventory at safe level in order to ensure availability at all times.

• Assist to prepare operating plans, budgets and capital expenditure proposals to maintain and improve operation of the plant.

• Conduct daily or regular inspection of the plant to gather fresh information as basis in creating work schedules.

• Prepare and estimates materials, tools, equipment, consumables, spare parts and manpower requirements necessary to execute projects and plant shutdown received from either operations or from all other discipline in coordination with the planning section of Smelter Department.

• Oversee and monitor the planning and execution of the section resources for the routine smelter maintenance shutdowns.

•  Evaluate outgoing purchase requisitions and communications

• Manage resources to ensure strict adherence to sound management principles for the effective and efficient execution of maintenance activities to achieve maximum plant availability at the lowest practically achievable cost.

• Continuously monitor and manage the section resources for strict adherence to the relevant engineering standards and specifications and execute appropriate actions for non-compliance

• Through effective leadership/mentorship cultivate, nurture and foster an enabling and continuous improvement climate/culture in the section

• Prepare and review the work methodology or standard operating procedures for HT switchgears/Transformers/PFC’s and protections

• Assist to manage the sections costs to achieve the maximum business benefit.

• Manage the human resources in the section in a manner that will ensure that the business objectives are met with minimum labor turnover.

• Ensure that good work ethics is sustained by effectively managing discipline with reference to absenteeism, lateness, overtime, misconduct, etc. within the section.

• Develop Zambian locals through trainings to impart ideas and technical knowledge on HV Switchgear/Transformers/Motors, Generators, PFC’s, FSS’ and Protection.

Qualifications

Minimum of a Degree in Electrical Engineering / equivalentQualification in the Electrical FieldAll academic certificates must be certified by ZAQA

Experience

Experience in EHT Switchgears/Transformers/Motors, Generators, Fire Suppression Systems and PFC’s.A minimum of 5 years relevant experience and exposure in an Electrical Supervisory position or Senior supervisor level in a Pyromettalurgical Mineral processing environment.

Extensive experience with :

EHT Switchgear/Transformers/PFC’s and ProtectionsEHT MotorsGeneratorsCable jointing, termination and fault finding capabilities.Reading Electrical drawings (Schematic and Single Line Diagrams)EHT/EHV switching and control systemsFire Suppression SystemsHeating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC).

Knowledge on the following :

Extra High Voltage systems and Switchgears complete with protections.EHV transformers and motorsMV VSDs such as the ATV1200 by SchneiderEHV cable jointingElectrical maintenance, fault-finding and troubleshooting.Reading electrical drawings.Principles of electrical protection and be able to calculate faults, co-ordinate relays and choose appropriate relay curves.Operating electrical test instruments such as the Primary and secondary injection test set, contact resistance tester, three phase turns ratio tester, transformer ohmmeter, ground resistance tester, CT excitation/saturation tests, circuit breaker timing tests, Hipot Tester and PI tests.How to use electrical simulation softwares such as SKM and ETAP.Programming and use of softwares tools such as SFT2841 and SFT2885 SEPAM, Logo comfort software, SE-MON30 Littelfuse software, Ziton planner software, TDMS Pro, Powerlog 430-II, Smartview Classic and woodward software for easygen controllers.   Performing transformer oil filtration and purification
