The Electronic Systems Division (ESD) within the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource (SSRL) Directorate at SLAC seeks a safety system engineer to lead the Protection Systems Group and exercise responsibility for SSRL beamline and accelerator personnel protection safety systems as well as machine (equipment) protection systems. SSRL ESD is responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of synchrotron radiation electronic instrumentation at SSRL. Within ESD, the Protection Systems Group concentrates on beamline and electron accelerator machine protection systems (MPS), personnel protection systems (PPS), and beam containment systems (BCS). As such the Protection Systems Group establishes performance criteria, evaluates system architectures, designs, validates, documents, implements, and exercises stewardship for the SSRL protection system infrastructure. As an SSRL safety system engineer, you will perform project management and engineering work of considerable scope and complexity, often challenging and difficult with considerable technical independence as well as collaborate with SSRL staff of diverse technical backgrounds to find solutions to the more challenging engineering problems. Additionally, as group leader you will exercise management responsibility for the Protection Systems Group in ESD. You will collaborate with other engineers, engineering associates, and technicians, to support safety systems implementations and best practices, while maintaining and upgrading subsystems assigned. This position reports to the SSRL ESD Director. **Specific Responsibilities (Including but not limited to):** + Manage the Protection Systems Group activities.
