**Job Summary**
NOTE: This role is designated as Hybrid. Candidate must reside within the Tulsa, OK, OR Rogers, AR OR Shreveport, LA geographic area as will be going into office 2 days week/working remotely 3 days a week.
Responsible to the assigned supervisor for performing intermediate level engineering work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering knowledge in a safe, effective, efficient and economic accomplishment of assigned objectives.
**Job Description**
**ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:**
+ Perform and review relay protection and control activities for 4kV thru 765KV electrical substation projects.
+ Prepare and review P&C scopes for electric substation projects.
+ Prepare and/or review P&C engineering and designs for electrical substation projects.
+ Prepare and Review Relay Setting Calculation Sheets, Setting Files and other relay setting deliverables for substation projects.
+ Participate in project scheduling, resource planning, and cost control for assigned projects.
+ Provide engineering support for project installation, commissioning, checkout and troubleshooting.
+ Model transmission system impedances and perform short circuit fault studies.
+ Perform area protection studies and recommend settings for existing and new transmission line and station protection schemes.
+ Review, evaluate and provide P&C comments and recommendations on transmission system planning proposals.
+ Coordinate with transmission customers and interconnected companies on associated protection issues.
+ Perform activities related to NERC P&C standards.
+ Contribute to development of system-wide protection standards for transmission and distribution station protection, metering and control applications.
+ Provide general P&C technical support, as needed, including the technical interfaces with Telecomm, Operations, Station Engineering, Transmission Planning and Project Management.
**Leadership & Guidance:** Coordinates work activities of others within the work group, department, or other corporate entity as necessary to complete routine activities. Performs routine engineering activity with minimum direction from higher-level employees. Follows policies, practices, standards and rules of the company and those regulations and procedures required by external agencies. Provides training and guidance to lower-level employees.
**Planning & Organization Ability:** Coordinates the development of input necessary to forecast costs for the routine projects, improvements requisitions, etc. Uses scheduling techniques (CPM, PERT, flow charts, etc.) for budget and planning activities. Initiates corrective action when project objectives are not being met.
**Problem Solving & Initiative:** Resolves and initiates solutions to routine problems which usually require additional definition/clarification before analysis can begin. Demonstrates ability to identify problems that are beyond the normal routine. Demonstrates ability and desire to seek out opportunities and embrace new ideas and approaches.
**Communication:** Develops, reviews, or presents technical reports such as improvement requisitions, studies, and analyses in as clear, concise and effective fashion.
**Interpersonal Skills:** Is an active team member. Networks with peers inside and outside the AEP system. Identifies key stakeholders. Uses informal network to get things done. Resolves conflict, builds consensus.
**Decision Making:** Makes decisions subject to review within established policies and procedures. Makes decisions that affect the work of the team. Aware of risks. Demonstrates the ability to extrapolate beyond known facts to reach logical conclusions.
B **usiness Awareness & Characteristics:** Understands AEP's organizational structure and the specific role and responsibility of their individual organizational unit. Demonstrates an understanding of the budgeting and approval process. Is proficient in the application and use of economic analysis techniques in problem solving. Develops an understanding of utility regulation and financing.
**MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:**
**Basic Qualifications: Engineer (Grade 06)**
Salary Range:$72,380- $90,474.
+ **Education/Experience:** Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET* with typically **two (2)** or more years of related engineering experience. _*Engineers with a Master's Degree in Engineering from a program accredited by ABET* may be considered for entry into the organization at Grade 06 level._
+ **Capabilities:** Adaptability, Work Standards, Execution, Technical and Professional Knowledge, Lives the AEP Values
+ **License:** Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico** is encouraged and preferred.
+ **** Confirmation is required to ensure the PE obtained in Puerto Rico aligns with NCEES standards.**
**Basic Qualifications: Engineer (Grade 07)**
Salary Range-$85,081- $106,353.
**Education/Experience:** Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET* with typically **Four(4)** or more years of related engineering experience. _*Engineers with a Master's Degree in Engineering from a program accredited by ABET* may be considered for entry into the organization at Grade 06 level._

+ **License:** Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico** is encouraged and preferred.

**Basic Qualifications Engineer Sr. (Grade 08):**
**Salary Range- $96,110- $124,940**
+ **Education/Experience:** Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET* with typically **six (6)** or more years related engineering experience OR **four (4)** years of related engineering experience along with a Master's or PhD in engineering from a program accredited by ABET*.
+ **Capabilities:** Adaptability, Work Standards, Execution, Technical and Professional Knowledge, Lives the AEP Values
+ **License:** Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico** is required for this position unless approval to waive this requirement is given by the organization's EVP.
+ **** Confirmation is required to ensure the PE obtained in Puerto Rico aligns with NCEES standards.**
**Acceptable alternatives are:**
(1) a Bachelor’s degree in engineering (non-ABET), plus a Professional Engineers (PE) license in any state of the U.S. or
(2) a Bachelor’s degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master’s degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor’s program.** Confirmation is required to ensure the PE obtained in Puerto Rico aligns with NCEES standards.
